STUDENTS: National University Championship: CALL FOR OPINION
Wow Jon this looks really great, this is exactly what I think foosball needs, and especially since I’m trying to get a Keele team going it couldn’t be better timing for me.
The idea where proper noobs can play each other and have the chance to win trophies is fantastic, and the freebies will work a treat I’m sure. I guess this is going to mean a restriction on those of higher rankings who can’t enter, sorry shovie, but then if there’s another event you can play in I can’t see it bothering anyone. The fact that you’re focussing on making it a really enjoyable day (music, cheap booz, uni team events, freebies) is what I believe will make it a success. I remember my first tournaments, was beaten loads but was expected to anyway and just had an amazing time meeting new people and playing free foosball all day. This is what I think will encourage people to come to tournaments in the future, and also encourage other people to attend. It would be great if we had the top players going showing off their shots and giving tips, I certainly know that would please my guys from Keele and so probably others.
I also agree with what Jhk said… I think…as this idea sounds amazing that I’m not actually bothered whether I can play or not I would just love to see Keele members seeing how much fun a tournament can be, and being able to learn more about the game.
If the only cost we need to worry about is the transport then I’m not worried about getting a minibus that shouldn’t be a problem, although could this be paid for also then? I don’t remember any dates being mentioned, and also what would a limit on the amount of players be?
Once again this sounds great Jon and I will try and keep posted,
Cheers, Bricey

It's Warwick and Oxford dominated, with 1 Cambridge, 1 Keele, 1 Manchester and unfortunately I don't know where Simon or Mark are at.

They didn't want you playing, Jon lol.
Meh, the age limit sounds silly. Don't really see any reason for it unless the sponsor is targeting just the young'uns, which I doubt.
Btw, Jon, by saying 'full-time education', do you mean it must be a recognised UK University? There are various other colleges, etc too...

Err... dunno. Maybe. I'll ask the sponsor.Doshin wrote:What about students from non-UK universities? Hmmm...
The students at Oxford so far hasn't said much more than what's been said here already. Just some stuff people have told me:
- Garlando only - obv coz that's the only table they've played on.
- One-day tourney on a Saturday - don't really mind how early/late as long as they don't have to fork out money for accom.
- Free food/drinks is defo an attraction
- Would be good to have tv/sofas, but other entertainment like loud music/PS2 not necessary.
- Travel - don't mind paying some, but not huge amounts. Mini-bus scheme would be ideal.
- Loves Uni Team/Cup events.
- Don't mind prize money - but would like really nice trophies.
- Want spare tables where you can play and mess around instead of just waiting while tournament games are going on.
- Would like some less serious events also - DYPs and such.
- Women want WS and WD and possibly Mixed.
Jon, how's this tourney planning then? Haven't heard much from you these days...
