Any RELIABLE weekend Tornado or Fireball comp in Europe?

Post by Garmani » Thu Jun 06, 2013 4:06 am

Will somebody please organise loads of weekend-long Tornado or Fireball competitions somewhere in Europe. I will travel. If possible I will even alter my ski-instructing to attend.

Travel to China, Australia or America for a weekend tournament is excessive.

I find other tables are barely worth travelling for.

The players 4 players website in germany seems currently to be down, it used to list most big tournaments in mainland Europe. On the German federation site - http://www.dtfb.de/index.php/termine - they list tournaments but not the table type. In Europe you are only likely to find Tornado or Fireball tournaments in Germany (or Kingston on Thames!).

It kinda was. I booked flights to travel to one in October and was just about to book accommodation when I decided to check it was still on only to find out it was cancelled.

So now my thread should be renamed: Any reliable weekend Tornado or Fireball comp in Europe?

If you have not actually tried leonhart then you should. It may not be quite as good as a tornado but its better than fireball.

Short answer: no

Unsure if they'll hold another Tornado tournament in Germany after the poor (for them) turnout last year (though another one of these happening is your best shout), and word is Fireball aren't going to be an official ITSF table next year so it's very unlikely any tournaments will be held on that in Europe.

I hope that Tornado's return to the ITSF Official status will mean some Tornado tournaments in Europe. What is BritFoos doing about this? Or are you guys scared that running a Tornado competition will bring the Irish out of hiding?

Re: Leonhart...I disliked it like I disliked all non-Tornado/Fireball tables I had tried until a few weeks ago when I started to get used to the deadness of the rebound from the wall. I would consider travelling to Amsterdam, Rotterdam and maybe even the UK in 2015 for Leonhart competitions if no Tornado or Fireball competitions are organised.

Gary, at this point in time the BFA is not organising tournaments although we have ITSF tournament-quality tables (Garlando and Leonhart) available for our members to use for tournaments essentially for free. The Tornado announcement was as much a surprise to us as to you. Who knows what will come of it.

The only person in the UK with enough Tornado tables to put on a tournament of any decent size is Tich Degun in London, he put on a one-dayer over the summer which had 30 odd people at it. Keep an eye on the forum and Facebook and come along next time he does one.

Personally I can bank pretty well on Leonharts, Fireballs and Robertos BTW, deadness of the walls not a problem. I'd agree it's much harder to do it on Bonzini and almost impossible on Garlando.

Thanks for that, but it's too late in January. I'll be up the Alps for 12 weeks and it'll not be worth spending so much time and money travelling for a one-day thing.
