There hasn't been a European Tornado ranking list for over 5 years - I used to maintain it taking over from Christian Klein in 2002, but abandoned it when the Germans were no longer publishing tournament results so they were under-ranked compared to UK/Irish players. This was a little while before we went to a unified rankings system and abandoned table-specific rankings in the UK when it started to get silly...

I received an email this morning/last night from Mary.

They would like me to send a list of players names with their UK ranking and their ITSF ranking.

Could those who want ranking checked make it easy and just reply with

name and ranks.

Ie

Ben Mason UK - Semi Pro and ITSF - Amateur

I can just copy and paste these then.

In answer to Dave Z i dont think they have a clue what to rank people. So if you have an opinion or justification for a rank youd like include that.

I will be saying that Im ranked rookie in the German P4P rankings and Amateur in IFP so that considered with my BFA and ITSF rank obviously shows I should be lowest rank possible.

Mike and Dave....would you mind posting your flight details here?
Sarah and I are looking in to flights now and it may be nice to pick up the same flights as others. I've checked BA from Heathrow and there are a lot of flights.

Are you planning on getting a taxi from the airport seen as its about 20km?

Jody,

I'm on BA0912 out of Heathrow at 16:10 on Friday 26 April.
Return on BA0907 from Frankfurt at 11:50 on Monday 29 april.

I was thinking of getting a taxi, so the more the merrier.

From Mary,
I am thinking all players ranked 900 or higher on ITSF could be amateur then 400 to 899 Expert the rest (above 399) pro, except the ones that are already master here in my system. Do you think that would be close to being correct?
I've said yes to save Steve from being ranked higher. lol

That would be a terrible method of ranking us.

We have one of the worlds 1st MS series events in a few weeks. We'll all be bumped up, and I may well have to go over there as a pro. Which is silly.

Luckily, no tournament seems to check any ID. So if Joe Bundy is ranked pro, I'm going over as Mike Andrews

Mase, Joe,

Mary's method would mean I would be ranked Pro (open combined #309).

One approach would be to use our own UK ranking list, although then Mary would have to do something similar for other countries too.

Why not reverse engineer the way US players are treated in the BFA rankings

Below 1500 BFA pts - Amateur
1500-2400 - Expert
2400-3000 - Pro
Over 3000 - PM

I do not think that is workable/right either .
We also need to remember it is not a BFA issue it is a Mary issue.
In any event what ever we put forward if anything it needs to be agreed here as all options will affect someone who potentially has already paid to go based on a ranking we have had confirmed in an email from Mary.

Whatever is decided as a general approach going forward, I do not think it's right for any individual who has already had their rank explicitly confirmed (and may have booked on that basis) to have their rank subsequently changed.

Mary has made her decision and at least it is a decision and made early. This should be appreciated.

I think we should keep our opinions to ourselves now. Nothing should affect the ranking Steve has been given. He has flights booked and partners organised.

Mary will reserve the right to change someones rank post event and move them up or down on appeal as she always has done.

Regards,

Mase

Going to a country where I'd be ranked amateur in their tournaments, amateur/semi-pro in an ITSF worlds (depending on which side of 400 points I have) yet expert/pro in this one tournament.

Also once again facing a system which favours senior/junior/women players (as at many ITSF events these days there is exclusivity between their events and 'open').

It's madness. And I retain the right to voice my opinions and complain

That won't work for you Joe - you're too well known a figure in the table football community.
