GB International Team Caps

Post by Boris » Mon Jul 30, 2007 10:44 am

One cap awarded per fixture (e.g. GB-v-Denmark) where player is selected in representative team events (whether or not s/he actually plays due to forfeit, dead rubber etc).
ITSF column represents caps in official ITSF Friendlies, Nation Cup or World Cup competitions.
Overall total includes pre-ITSF national team events and non-ITSF sanctioned national team events (e.g. P4P).

Updated after 2017 Bonzini WCS, includes caps for Team GB, England and Wales (Garlando 2004/05 Nation Cups).

Grr, that reminds of the farcical Belgium/Canada team that came 2nd in 2004, even though the canadians had enough for a team on their own....

Bellenda i think they called it.

Something to aspire to be on - either on merit (Bonzini/Garlando/World Cup) or by turning up (Tornado, Roberto-Sport, Tec-Ball)

I'm sure I haven't got 5 - I can only think of 1 - ITSF World Cup.

Cheers,
Rhys

You get 1 cap per fixture - at the World Cup the team played 5x matches (4x quals plus 1 KO).  At this years GWCS we played 4x matches to reach the final, whereas at RS and Tornado we got KOd in the first round and only played one match.

caps

Seems odd not to include World Championship fixtures as well.

I get a cap for playing in Bonzini worlds but not for representing my country?

This is for team caps.  I used to keep a list of international tournaments and UK players who competed but it hasn't been updated for ages and would be a major job now.

Ah, no, I was suggesting you should include the ITSF World Championships, not table-specific worlds. Doesn't that better reflect what you are trying to do?

It is an honour to qualify for the ITSF WCs, but it is an individual, not a team, event, and the title is GB TEAM caps.

Many thanks to all who competed for their country this year, and commiseratons to those who made the trips but not necessarily the team.

Next year we have another 5x fixtures to fulfil - including the Tec-Ball WCS where we had no team this year, and RobertoSport where we were a player (forfeited match) short.

It is important that we compete in all 5 events, as this boosts our national ranking and should ensure we get back into the top 8 or better.  For the 2010 World Cup it is likely that only the top 7 nations (plus the hosts) qualify automatically, and the rest may have to play qualification matches or run the lottery of a ballot to compete in South Africa.

Presumably the purpose is to provide some objective criteria for team selection purposes?
