Surely, with all this info, Cambridge could have an Old Boys match this year too?

We're already in the national league, so have plenty of matches to get through.

OOBs v. NOBs v. COBs.... lol
I think that's actually quite a good idea. I imagine next year is going to be a bit silly, so maybe we could split teams up based on number of years after leaving university or something.
The "Current" Oxford Boys

Mark Austin
Mike Bennett
Dave Carter
Paddy Grover
Naeem Kaka
Jee Ha Kim
Dean Tilley
Matt Tredwell
Zico Yung
Pete Franklin (interchangeable?)

The "New" Old Boys

Chaz Allen : 1 year since leaving by 2007
Pete Franklin : 3 (interchangeable?)
Dave Morgan : 1
Konrad Rodgers : 1
John Shovelton : 1
Tom Bell : 3
Andy Bennett : 2
Craig Fothergill : 2
Louise Yates : 2
Rob Moss : 3

The "Old" Old Boys

Dan Gallon : 4 years since leaving by 2007
Ben Greedy : 4
Mark Willliams : 4
John Worthington : 4
Juj Sohi : 5
Andrei Russell-Gebbett : 5
Adam Baker : 8
Richard Thomson : 7
John Blanchard : 16

I know the old boys' match is miles away... but this thread caught my eye and thought i'd start this up as i was bored...

Should Shovo's list stay as it stands? (plus any additions/corrections to it?)
I think the teams are quite evened up...? hmm tho i havent actually seen many of them play  :?

Also about the match format.... it would be good to let as many people play as possible... but a tri-nations oooh... might take a long time..

say 4 pairs from each team.
thats (4+4+4)*4 = 48 games. oof.

5 pairs:
(5+5+5)*5 = 75 games. omg.

how about 4 pairs, thus 48 games, first to 7? hopefully this would take less than 5 hours...?

any views from cobs, nobs or oobs?

edit: how about this pete? you can play for either, depending on the number of people available for each team. i changed the boundary by 1-3 years for the NOBs...

If we just keep the games short and sweet then it'll be fine. 4 pairs each team. Every pair gets 8 games of say 1-9. Thats 48 games.

At the Warwick match we had 5 pairs each, playing best of three. That could have been up to 75 games with each pair playing up to 15 games.

I think the squads look even enough, its just trying to find a suitable date for 24 people that might be an issue.

Should Dave M really be in NOBS? He played for COBS against Warwick earlier this term...

If yes, Morgan for captain of the NOBS!

Those look pretty fair teams, and switching them around could get complicated.

e.g., Jee Ha has me down as 1 year from finishing, and Tom Bell as 2, but we both did finals in 2004.  I presume I'm marked as 1 since I stopped playing for Trinity this year, but I work for the University so technically am still 'Current'.  So going by student status (3 years) I'd be OOB but by 'Uni' status I'm COB, but I'm on the NOB team.

If it ain't broke ...

lol.
well, pete is in a bit of a sticky situation here...
hmm.
well, dave carter is working for the uni, and is not a student, and is counted as a COB...
so pete, you can be a COB too!
But then....
since there are only 4 pairs per team. and i think most COBs are more likely to be available to play than those NOBs and OOBs who are not in oxford.... and NOBs are lacking good players ;) ... maybe you could play for the NOBs...? hmm.

edit: above list changed a bit. i.e. 1-3 years for NOBs boundary. and pete has been italicised

Proposed dates for this year's match:

Sunday 20th April OR Saturday 3rd May

These two dates are the preferred ones for us COBs (Saturday 19th April is collections day, the week inbetween is Floatel, and any weeks after are probably too close to finals).
Juj & Old Boys, what do you think?

Technically speaking, I work for the uni - so I should be in the same position as Pete Franklin is I spose.

Really? So you'd be eligible to play for the uni in matches next year?

EDIT: This is directed at Tom K

Captains

COBs: Jee Ha Kim
NOBs: John Shovelton
OOBs: Jujhar Sohi

If each team could field 4 pairs please (use the list above to compile your team). This will be played on 2 tables, and there will be 48 games. So we'll need to keep it short, 9.1 every game. Kick-off 1pm at Catz, then curry at 7pm. Something like that.

Please ask your team members their availability - we'll need to agree on a date soon. Sunday 20th April OR Saturday 3rd May.

Btw, PeteF and TomK are interchangeable - so they could play for an Old Boys team if you are short of numbers.

I'm in, though 3rd May is preferable to 18th April (why a Friday?)
