I think that's actually quite a good idea. I imagine next year is going to be a bit silly, so maybe we could split teams up based on number of years after leaving university or something.

Taken from the ranking list, and old boys from this year...

Oxford University

Mark Austin
Dave Carter
Paddy Grover
Naeem Kaka
Matt Tredwell
Zico Yung
etc.

The "New" Old Boys

Chaz Allen : 1 year since leaving by 2007
Pete Franklin : 1
Dave Morgan : 1
Konrad Rodgers : 1
John Shovelton : 1
Tom Bell : 2
Andy Bennett : 2
Craig Fothergill : 2
Louise Yates : 2

The "Old" Old Boys

Rob Moss : 3 years since leaving by 2007
Dan Gallon : 4
Ben Greedy : 4
Mark Willliams : 4
John Worthington : 4
Juj Sohi : 5 ?
Andrei Russell-Gebbett : 6 ?
Adam Baker : ?
Richard Thomson : ?
John Blanchard : 16

I have no idea about most of those figures, but they look like quite even teams. The "Old" Old boys look the strongest on paper, though.

Thats exactly what we do in pool.

Current old boys

YOBs

OOBs

Errr... The "New" Old Boys title is no longer appropriate if you look at the list carefully.

Tri-nations would be fantastic....

I think Juj was 6, and i will be 7 years by then. I thought Andrei left about 2/3 years before I did, but could be wrong.

Of course, some will remember Matt Green, Johnny Halsall, Steve Harrison, Al Penderton and apparently another Richard Thomson who went before the old old boys. (Neil M - am i right in thinking you had found an old article on a uni match about 10 years ago with all the names detailed?) I seem to remember getting an email off someone who apparently set up the Oxford Table Football Association in about 1985 (before it closed down and was set up again by Dan and I in 1998)

Clearly we need an OB vs OOB vs OOOB vs OOOOB vs OOOOOB .... match.

Thanks,
Richard

I'm older than 4 of the "Old" Old Boys. Does that make me an 'Old' "Young" "'Old Boy'"?

Other Old Boys that I can remember who have played for the Uni (from past scorecards) and (very) approx years since leaving by 2007:

Dave Trease - Catz 2
Chris Hall - Keble 3
Paul Marsh - Wolfson, 5
Gianluigi Oliveri - Wolfson 6
Phil Clayton - Balliol, 6
Andy Husdan - Trinity, 3
Chris Dark - Trinity, 2
Dicko - St. Peters, 5
the Showbiz Postman, - St. Peters, 5
Mike Mansour - St. Peters, 5
Dave Chavda - St. Peters, 3
Mike Osbourne - Worcester 4
Grant Mitchell - Keble 4
Sam Venables - Keble 3
Ed Godfrey - Trinity 3
Alex Green - Trinity 3
Chritian Wippo - Trinity 2
Morten Garberg - Keble 4
Stu Wilson - Keble  4
Paul Campbell - Trinity 4
James G (Keble?) 4
Ak (???) ?
Ben Darvill - St. Peters, 7
Tom King - ChCh (student til 2003, employed by the uni since)
Mark Newson - Catz (still technically a student!)
You going to Austria?
Not this time I'm afraid, I only attend on odd numbered years.

I remember playing these guys in my first year, we had some titanic matches - they were awesome players with rolling tap bangs etc. It would be brilliant to get them back for a match.

Another one for the list: Mark Naylor, St Peters (7 years) - inventor of the wrench

Some historical names: I have also more players (see Jon's link the CUTFS site), and many of the email addresses for these people, give me a shout if you want them.

Cambridge

2006 captain:  Jon May  (King's)
2005 captain:  Steve McAuley  (Queens')
2004 captain:  Neil Morrison  (Trinity)
2003 captain:  Sohaib Al-Zadjali  (Trinity)
2002 captain:  John Kirkpatrick  (Selwyn)
2001 captain:  John Kirkpatrick  (Selwyn) [match not played due to Oxford not turning up]
2000 captain:  Chris Bethell  (Robinson)
(Chris ran a league in 2000 that stopped after a couple of months.)
1999 captain:  Ian Davis  (Jesus)
1998 captain:  Ivan Henshell (Jesus)
1997 captain:  Will Hawkes (Jesus)
1996 captain:  Howard May  (St. Catharine's)
(Chris says that Ian Davis may have said there was a Cambridge league that stopped in about 95/96.)
1996 president: Tim Clapp  (St. John's)
(refounded club, ran a league and cuppers)
1995 CUSU handbook contact: Aziz Abdullah (Pembroke)
1993/94 President: Andreas Papadopoulos  (Robinson)
(Played a match vs. an Oxford team, believes it was the Oxford A team, "lost only one game out of about 10")
24.6.92 CUTFC registered by Xenios Papademetris  (Robinson)

Oxford

2006 captain:  Chaz Allen (Keble)
2005 captain:  John Shovelton  (St. Catherine's)

1999 captain:  Andrei Russell-Gebbett (St. Peter's)

1992-93 captain: Paul Miller (Merton)
1991-92 organised by: Merton players including Dave Hyett
1990-91 (at least): Tony White (Merton)

Mike Snodin does not recall any varsity match before 96.
Alan Pennell (1996 player) says "I know there was no varsity match in 95 or 94 but there was in 93 and probably before"
John Halsall (1996 player) still has results from Trinity/Catz Oxford league 96, Alan Pennell may have more league details etc.

If anyone can add to this, that would be good.
