A Welsh Federation?

Post by Boris » Tue Jun 24, 2008 4:57 pm

Bear in mind that although Great Britain currently has a unified federation and national team, there is scope for separate Welsh and Scottish federations to affiliate to ITSF and put forward national teams.

Wales have actually had teams at the 2003 and 2004 Garlando Worlds in pre-ITSF nation-cup days.  Effectively these were England B teams with anyone with any sort of vague welsh connection taking part - in 2003 Wales paired up with Iran to put forward a combined team, although this would no longer be permitted.

A start would be to have a wales working group and organising via this forum.

There are some good Welsh players around, either full-blooded or those with strong welsh links, e.g.
Rhys Roberts (retired PM and member of 2006 GB World Cup team)
Mark Williams (SP and member of GB Tornado Nation Cup team)
Matt Cotterill (SP and member of GB Tornado Nation Cup team)
(Dave Morgan - (Wales Captain at Garlando Worlds in 2004)

There was also a Wales Open at Bangor in 2004.

I appreciate that foosball lacks development in Wales, but those with an interest should not wait for a magic wand from outside but work towards making the game develop and stimulating competition and new players and venues.

Unfortunately, I'll be living in the USA for the next 2-3 years - but if Wales put a team out in future international events, I would definitely try to get there and represent.
