new in Wales

Post by GermanKat » Mon Mar 24, 2014 9:59 am

My husband and I are in Wrexham from August. We play in Germany league and would like this to continue in Wales.
Which contact points there are in this area?
We have a Tornado at home  which tables can we expect?

regards
Katrin

Hi Katrin,

Welcome to the forum. But I'm sorry to say that to my knowledge, there isn't really anything foos-wise going on in the north of Wales. There is a table at Bangor university, but I don't know if they have much of a regular playing scene there. So, sadly, think the nearest groups of players to you might be Liverpool and Manchester.

Sorry, we don't have the same abundance of players throughout the country as you do in Germany!

Joe.

Thanks Joe for your answer.

I found in this forum two adresses to play fooseball:
Ship Hotel in Flint (Tornado?)
and
The Sun in Llangollen.

It is very unfortunate that in North Wales isn't a Leage. So, we're looking just for a good table and/or some people to play :)
From time to time we may love to come to liverpool.

Katrin

And don't forget to come to the June Tournament in Gloucester on leonhart tables. Be good to see you.

I don't think we have any current tournament players in the north of Wales, so no idea if these venues are current. Might be worth looking them up and giving them a call to find out if the tables are still there/if anyone players before making the journey.

Hi Katrin

As Joe says, your nearest clubs will be in Liverpool and Manchester, both of which hold monthly competitions
Liverpool - First Monday of the month - 8.30pm at Rileys Sports Bar, City Centre (2 mins walk from Lime Street or 5 mins from Central station) - next competition doubles (if min 8x players) and singles Mon 7th April (Garlando)
Manchester - Third weekend of the month - Friday Singles odd months, Sunday Doubles even months 9pm - Rainbow Snooker Club (5 mins walk from Oxford Road station) - Next competition doubles Sunday 20th April (Multitable - Tornado/Garlando/Leonhart).

The alternative, if you are going to be in the area for a while, is to start your own club, in an existing venue or a new venue, There used to be a Fireball in the Bowling Green LL13 7HU, so they may be up for another table if the pub still exists. Organise a competition and get people involved.

There are a few players at Telford's Warehouse in Chester, who haven't yet formed a club and might be responsive to some leadership and organisation (Fireball table last time we looked)

I'm afraid the scene a Bangor Uni is these days one of the odd casual player rather than any keen regulars.

Kat, let us know what you find. Don't set your expectations too high... but on the other hand, once you're there then perhaps you can get something going yourself!

So, yesterday:
Mission Impossible? nearly
Drove to Chester and our first stop was Town Crier. No table.
Next stop: The Bouverie. No table.
Ok, last chance: (and because of willhawkes post, I had no expectations  ) Telfords Warehouse. Yes, finally a Fireball!
(We were at the first two stops to be sure that there is just one table in Chester.)

50P for about 10 balls to play. First ball: Tornado one! yeah.
next one(and the rest too): some plastic round thing... aiaiai
You cannot stick the ball because the grip is loose... we missed "splints"
and missed players too.
we won so high that nobody want to play with us...ups.

we asked a guy behind the bar if he knows some players who are interested in playing and being in a league. He told us to put a poster on the wall.
so, next time, after checking with the clubmanager, we'll put a poster on it and we'll see.

How many people do we need for a club or team?

Kat, we love your enthusiasm, glad to hear you had a fun evening and that you did actually find a table!

The best thing to do is start doing your own little local tournaments on the Fireball there, and you'll have to grow your own player base there from the locals (and you'll probably have to teach them to play too!).

But we all start somewhere.

Once you've got a few regular players, you can probably establish yourselves as a club. I'll leave it for some others to post here how you do that.

Will

If you fancy heading down there again, let me know, as I'd be up for popping down for a few games.

Or if you can stomach Bonzini you're always welcome up to Liverpool!

Come to the Rainbow in Manchester on Friday 19th around 8:30pm, there is a multitable (tornado garlando leonhart) singles competition, and a chance to discuss developing the NWales scene...

Should have stuff on the Rainbow thread in the North West regional section,
http://forum.britfoos.com/forum/viewtop ... &start=240
also there is a Facebook group where you'll find the results, photos and standings.
https://www.facebook.com/groups/199811686866303/

The Rainbow has the highest standard of regular play in the North (at least this side of Darlington),
but we also hold regular competitions in Liverpool on the first Monday of the month (Garlando)
https://www.facebook.com/LokomotivLiverpoolTFC

If I find any decent players at Bangor Uni this year I'll let you know.

The only venues I have on the database in North Wales other than Bangor are:
Glan Yr Afon Inn Milwr, Brynford, Holywell Clwyd CH8 8HE - Unknown table type (not confirmed)
Sun Inn 49 Regent Street Llangollen LL20 8HN - Futbolin table (Spanish style)

In CH Postcodes we have
Telfords Warehouse Tower Wharf Chester CH1 4EZ - Fireball
Rileys Centurion Point, Victoria Road Chester CH2 2AX - Garlando
Punch Bowl Hotel 77 Market Street Hoylake Wirral CH47 2BH - Fireball

Note that the information is likely to be out of date, so if you find any tables please let us know.

It is always worth checking operators stickers on pool tables, bandits, juke-boxes etc and contact them as they may have foosball tables in other venues in the area.
