North West Regional Championships 2013-14

Post by Boris » Fri Sep 20, 2013 4:24 pm

The North West of England will be holding a Regional Championships over the next 12 months, hosted by Lokomotiv Liverpool, Manchester Rainbow Warriors and sponsored by Champfoos. Any player is eligible to enter any event in the series, which will conclude in December 2014.

This involves a number of separate Open Singles and/or Open Doubles events held over the year at different venues around the region. As dates and venues are confirmed they will be added to this post and thread.

Criteria are:
The events must be advertised in this forum at least a week in advance.
Events can take place on any table type.
Organisers may use double-elimination, single-elimination or group-stage formats provided events last no longer than 3 hours.
Organisers must use standard rules (ITSF or simplified BFA rules).
Events must be open to all players (but numbers may be limited by table capacity if notified in advance)
Events can include Open Singles and/or Doubles competitions, or singles/doubles events limited by rank
Organisers can change events from singles to doubles with high turnouts or doubles to singles with low turnouts.
Organisers can hold a maximum of one event per calendar month in a single venue.

All players need to give their full name, year of birth and nationality (if resident in the UK under 5 years).
Players will earn Championship points for each competition they enter according to the standard BFA points distribution dependent on finishing position and total entries.
Championship Points for open competitions will be weighted at 100%, points from events limited by rank weighted at 50%.
The player with the most points at the end of September 2014 is declared Regional Champion.

Pretty sure I didn't come last. Also, why are you posting things like that on the forum? You desperately want to rank that Cat E too don't you?

Boris, thanks for posting this, it's great to see anything which brings new players into the game. You never know, Wigan Youth Zone could be the next place to produce 16 year old UK Pro Masters... from small acorns grow big oaks.

I think the main takeaway is that I smashed allcomers at the doubles session with zero practice, and zero skills.

I think that the actual result was:

1) John W
4)=Sarah
4)=Bozza
4)=Joe90

But you can actually play foos. I can't, all I have is a brush-snake, and when I don't do that (because it's the least fun thing ever to do) and I have pretty much nothing. One of these days I might actually try to learn how to play the game.

They're still at the "thrash at anything that moves" stage, but get em young and hopefully they won't have to un-learn too many bad habits. One young lad was playing a member of staff and was just spinning, the staff member got called away to deal with a disturbance and I showed him how to hit the ball properly and demonstrated a push-shot which he picked up like a sponge - still lost though but definite promise there... There are two tables there, a slick glass Fas fun with wedge-shaped feet and a sandblasted table with block feet where the ball lifts if hit with any power. I'm hoping to persuade them to get a wheelchair table as they have a number of disabled kids going there and donating the prototype FAS National Team table (tournament standard) I was sent a few years ago for review when they were thinking about getting ITSF recognised status.

It looks like the staff and volunteers may be forming a club to enter the league...

Results - Wigan Youth Zone - Junior Singles (FAS) 27-11-13

1 - Rufus Aindow
2 - Adam Gorman
3 - Max Vrzala
4 - Archie Ives
5 - Sean Mullaney
5 - Scarlet Ives

OK a lower turnout than in October, but a clear improvement in standard with Rufus clearly the best overall player and attacker and Adam the best defensively.

Lancaster University Garlando Singles - 29-11-13
Results

1st Jakub Vonka
2nd Spase Petkoski
3rd Bastian Moulia
4th Moono Herryman
5th Ioannis Tsitsimpelis
5th Tim Corbett
7th Valentina Ticcinelli
7th Will Gibby

Jakub was a worthy winner with good control and pull/pin shots, two epic sweat-ball wins against Bastian's classic Bonzini style and double dipping last summers 'expert challenge' winner Spase Petkoski in the final. If these come to Liverpool in February they must be among the favourites for the Novice titles. Also interest in making Lancaster University TFC an official society and club.

Ha, you've counted the session at mine in that.

Well Sarah and I have had about 20x 'events' since you started this (multiple events over the course of a few evenings - SE/DE/Swiss 1.5/1.7/5.3/5.5) at the venue (my house). 10 wins each. We did some winner stays on with Alex a while back too. Alex probv won the most. All the same criteria as you and Worthington popping round mine for pizza and a few games, which apparently is being counted. So points for all of us please.

Plus there were loads of games had at Rob and Ola's this weekend.

I also played about 3 balls with a with a girl I was dating a few weeks back. Want to put that in this too?
