Last night was EXTRA-SPECIAL on a number of fronts -

A welcome appearance by the Darragh Family - Brendan, Alina and Bump!
Pregancy seems to improve one's play - I must try it!

A visit by Touring Team Matt and Kris.

The most impressive debut since Attilla the Hun by Stefan and Boyko
- Father & Son team from Bugaria (aka Coventry).

The Cheese & Onion Mega-Loaves on offer at the bar - I think Martyn had two!

The DYP saw the 6 teams locked in a ferocious battle for supremacy.
3 teams tied for top spot with 4 wins - Roger & Deg, Brendan & Bill, Stefan & Boyko.
Might have had a play-off but couldn't be arsed.

The second competition paired up Matt with Boyko - who preceeded to imperiously sweep aside all
opposition like wheat before a Combine Harvester.

Afterwards Roger and I tried to wear down Matt & Boyko for about an hour but couldn't get near them!
(Can I invoke some obscure rule about Boyko violating Dress Code by stripping down to his vest?)

So thanks, guys, for opening that can of whupp-ass - please come again!

(the beer was good too)

Cheers,
Bill

Really good to catch up with everyone last night.

Had a bit of a chin-wag with the player base regarding the 'High Control' garlando balls that Chris had so kindly ordered for us.

The upshot was that as soon as Chris had left the building. His lovely new balls were replaced with the old Barenherz magic balls.

Happy Days

WELL DONE to Blake, Saman, and Mark at Liverpool,

With the permission of Blake's Agent I have cut and pasted Blake's memoirs of the weekend - :D

Yes it was very good. We did quite well in the novice tournaments. Saman won the novice singles. I brought another lad from work and he came third in the novice singles. I teamed up with him on novice doubles and it ended up with us playing mark and Saman in the final and we just edged it.

So the four of us ended up taking 6 trophies home. We also won quite a few in the open and amateur tournaments but got crushed a few times too.

All in all a good experience and most people were very friendly. There were quite a few people there that i have seen from the Oak at one point or another too.

We'll see the guys on Friday - don't forget its First Friday - PIZZA, Prizes, and PYP!

Cheers,
Bill

Dammit I was really looking forward to this but everyone else has cancelled and I live in Leamington so can't afford a taxi back by myself :(
I'm planning to learn to drive over the summer and buy a car so hopefully I'll be able to get a car full of Warwick guys to all of these events next uni year. Hope to see you next week at the Open in Cov. I don't think I've seen a team from your pub yet, any news?

Hi guys,

Just wanted to say that there's a competition that you guys might be interested in entering. It's the BFA Club Trophy, you can find more details on the main site here. Basically the idea is that different clubs across the UK can compete against each based on how well their players perform at tournaments. We only launched this competition in the past week, so I'm sorry that I haven't got around to notifying you guys yet. I notice that a few of you have pre-registered to attend the Warwick tournament next weekend - I think that it would be nice to get you guys involved in the Club Trophy if we can, as you certainly seem to be one of the biggest and most successful clubs that exist in the UK at the moment.

Anway, it's completely free to enter, but if you're interested then we'd ask that you first officially sign up the Royal Oak as a registered BFA table football club, and then from there whenever anyone from your club goes to a tournament they just have to pre-register saying that they're from your club and you'll pick up the points if they do well. The competition will last for the rest of the year and they'll be prizes for the winners.

You can register as a table football club here. We don't mind what you call your club as long as their's some indication of where you are in the title, so it can Nuneaton Table Football Club or The Royal Oak Table Football Club, or anything else.

Hope you guys are doing okay,

Chris

Extract from Joe Bundy's article in the latest BFA Newsletter -

"Clubs are the way forward when it comes to growing the game in this country. If we can better the awareness of our game through social networks, I want to be able to make everyone aware of their brilliant local scenes where the members of our community meet on a regular basis to play and have fun. I want to see what happens at Nuneaton (which, in my personal opinion is the best at this in the country) happen in many towns and cities across the country."

Thanks to all our regulars, irregulars, guests and gatecrashers for making Joe's kind words possible.

Regards,
Bill
