Nuneaton - Royal Oak table football thread

Post by Chris H » Sat Sep 19, 2009 2:20 pm

[Mod - Split from the Nuneaton Boro Thread]

Derek, Bill, Roger, and myself went to view the Royal Oak last night, plus steve viewed last Friday and we all agreed it would be a good venue. The landlord has said we can have 2 tables with good lighting and plenty of room to play. I have spoken to Paul today and he said if everyone liked the venue he is happy to go along with the majority and he is going to the Boro today to make arrangements regards moving the tables.

The address is
The Royal Oak Arbury Road Stockingford Nuneaton CV10 7NQ.

[Comments from El - Cap]
Between 8 and 14 players meet every Friday to play doubles, 8pm til late.
Friday nights are £2 per player, which pays for the games all evening.
Regulars draw their partners out of a hat, Newcomers are welcome to play together.
We play league-style, every pair plays every other pair, and gets the same number of games.
Tables are 50p for 10 balls, World Champ spec Garlandos.
Games are friendly, but played to a high standard. Newcomers are always made welcome.

Thanks Chris, Derek, Bill and to a lesser extent myself for finding the venue and helping to move the two tables last night. Lets have a good turnout, although I will be a little late as I will be watching the Boro. I will be there about 10.

I thought the first night went very well. Good to see some of the "old" crowd turn up - hope the rest make a visit soon.
Landlord did not rush to throw us out - so plenty of games played.
Thanks to Ann for the cakes.

This was a really fun evening with JW as tournament director.

Lots of banter, silly jokes, lovely food from Mrs H.

It was great to get the locals involved in a few games as well.

Good venue .

The first Friday at the new venue went very well , i arrived at 6-30 to clean and level the tables and there were 4 people playing on 1 table making lots of noise and having a good time. There was alot of interest from the locals and some joined in for a few games. I am planning on getting there for 7-30 on Fridays as some people have asked if we could start earlier. It would be helpful if people are going to turn up early to post on here letting others know . I'm hoping some of the old regulars start coming back now we have found a new venue and would like to thank everyone who turned up Friday making it a great evening.

had a really good night on friday. it was really nice to have such a large turnout, especially for the first night at the new venue. it was great to see the locals enthusiastic about the game, and nice to have a landlord who kept the pub open till almost 1am.
cheers to Mrs.H for all the food and to john.w for running the DYP. and to everyone else for making the night so enjoyable.
