Nuneaton Boro table football thread

Post by El Capitan » Fri Sep 19, 2008 9:04 am

Hand of Doom wrote:Thanks to Paul Addison for a great job in negotiating a new venue for us.
As of Friday 19th Sept we are moving to our new residence at Nuneaton Town (Paul insists on calling it "The Boro") FC, Liberty Way, Nuneaton, Warwickshire, CV11 6RR.

As always all are welcome to join us on Friday Nights.

We hope to use the link with football as a vehicle to popularise our game.

A Note of Common Sense at Grassroots Level:
As the venue is on Planet Earth we will be referring to the game as "Table Football" not "Foosball" - there is no sense at all in not linking the game with the most popular sport on the planet! Potential new players are confused by the term "Foosball" - and this is a Football Club after all.
For the avoidance of all doubt, this is neither a discussion nor a vote, it is simply what we need to do here to promote the game at the grassroots - End Of.

PS We still plan to use The Holywell for tournaments. :D  :D

Bill
And to tempt everyone there... I'lll be going tonight. Prepare to be dazzled by my post-Bobby-Sports-Worlds amazing passing series and pin shooting.

We will usually hold DYP competitions

Post by Paul Addison » Sat Sep 20, 2008 5:36 pm

The plan is to encourage new players so we will probably be holding a DYP every Friday unless new players wish to play together. What we do not want to do is have the best players just thrashing everybody - a DYP system should avoid this.

We expect it to be organised around a £2 entry fee each Friday, freeplay during the competition and a small cash prize. Any surplus to go towards investing in more tables etc.

Hey, great to see something happening in Cov and local area!

I'm pretty much a full on table football noob.  Even though I play on my sixth form common room table fairly regularly, my skill is still reasonably low.

It would be great to come along to some Friday Foosball sessions but will all the people there be proper pros who will just wipe the floor with me every time?

Luke.

No we're all nice guys, and you're welcome to come along. Some of us are pretty good, but you can learn a lot.

Expect to see you there this friday...

Sounds great, I don't think I'll be able to make it on Friday...until I can drive I'm not sure I'll be able to make many.

I'm only 17 you see, do I have to be 18 to get in?

I'm sure they're not fussed about it. It's a sports club... anyways we can always pretend you're someone's son....

I live in Binley, not too far from the town centre.  You from Cov too?

I'm back in the Midlands now too, so I may be joining some of those sessions (if they are open).
Friday > Thursday tho.

We'll have more information on what Warwick is doing table-football wise once the term gets going (next week). The current student union rebuild is giving us some location problems which we hope to get sorted ASAP.

We could do with a match against Warwick - preferably at the Boro. That would give the Social Club a boost and might be a good chance for you to try out some new players.

Luke - the Boro is a Social Club you do not have to be 18 to go in there.

An excellent attendance of 13 players saw the welcome return of Dominic and Helen (better luck next time) and the return of the Youth Development Policy with the arrival of Luke, Steve, Adam and AAron from Coventry. they all played extremely well and as you can see from the results were in the running for first place until the final game. In fact if it had gone to goal difference (if Paddy and Roger had lost 5-4 instead of winning 5-4) Steve and Deg would have won.

Anyway it was great to see so many new players and we hope to see you again soon.

It wqas a great atmosphere and the Boro Social Club definitely looks like a venue for the future. As does the new table installed by John, Paddy and Chris at Solihull Moors.

Final table was:-

Team      Won Lost F A GD Pts
Paddy&Roger     5 1 28 18 10 25
Steve & Deg      4 2 26 15 11 20
John        3 3 24 22 2 15
Aaron & Chr      3 3 23 23 0 15
Paul A & Luke    3 3 20 22 -2 15
Adam & Bill        3 3 21 25 -4 15
Dom & helen      0 6 13 30 -17 0
