The Barrels Thread

Post by Mase » Fri Feb 18, 2005 6:24 pm

The Barrels located in the centre of Hereford are forming a table football (garlando) team. Some older foosers may remember the barrels having a team in the early 90’s. Some of the same old faces will be playing including Geoff Brice, Clegg Tassell and Matt Cockburn (when he returns from his travels). The team will be made up with players who have been frequenting the Barrels over the last 2months to 10 years some of which include the Brice sisters (Sarah and Lou) and myself.
Although we are in our infancy Geoff judges our ten players are made up of 4-5 semi pro. 3-4 amateur and 2 between amateur and novice.
The barrels had many fixtures in the past and I imagine many of you guys know Geoff.
I am acting as the Barrels representative and will be organising the fixtures and team with Geoff, any feedback would be great, positive feedback expressing an interest in a home or away fixture would be even better.

The guys at the Chetwynd and I are always after games and it sounds like you'll probably be of a similar standard. Same for Warwick Uni.

Reading isn't too far but seem to be a bit disorganised these days.

The Oxford Uni guys are happy to play anyone and can get teams out all the time, but you will lose.

Cambridge, Soton and Manc may be a bit far to go.

You might wanna sort out a trip to the Bush (Tornado) one thursday as the guys there are all very friendly and it's very close by.

Well I know from experience that some guys seem unable to focus on the game when the Brice girls are around (Nice one Craig....) so you may have a secret weapon there.

If you just want friendlies, you could ask Oxford to put out a "B-team" like Warwick did.

Good to see more Table Football venues growing in keen players, like Warwick Uni. Good work Mase.

Mase: Warwick, I'm sure, will play you. Adam (forum name, as well as r/l) is the person to get in touch with. He organises all our external games. I'll look forward to it

The Barrels Team are Looking for Fixture
As I am acting captain 8) /organiser   /dogsbody   for the barrels team I have been asked to start looking for fixtures for this coming september and onwards.
We are probably looking at putting out and 8 person team (subject to arrangments) with atleast one female.
I would rank our players as 1 very good sp, 1 ok sp, 3 poor sps, and 2 good am.
We are willing to travel but it would be nice to host a few games too.
If you are interested please post back on here so i can gauge the levels of enthusiasm. Also if you have any ideas or comments on how i could go about this they would be apprectiated.
Looking forward to the replies.

Sure Oxford peeps would be up for it.

With regards to Reading...Stumpy is the person to get in touch with. He's organised (unlike the others!) and keen to play.

I am sure southampton could scrape together a team. I think there should be enough of us willing to travel, but i have to ask...

is it a slippery block foot?

Oxford will play you (1st job for Chaz) and if he doesn't organise it then I can captain a team of Oxford Grads.

Reading would have trouble

1) Getting a team of 8 willing to travel
2) Getting a female player

stumpy

Post by stumpy » Tue Aug 02, 2005 1:09 pm

not that true, may have the female player sorted, if not i'll wear a dress.
as for the 8 people that could be a bit more of a challenge, but bill is working on doing reading league as there are about 8 or 9 pubs with tables

Give me a chance to reply people. Captain is my job but I've been in Vienna last 12 days.

Mase: We'd be happy to play a match / couple of matches. As someone previously mentioned we also have an undergrad team. This will be much lower strength than the full Oxford team as we include 4th years as grads (hence I'm not allowed to play ;)). Term doesn't start for ~2 months though, so plenty of time to organise :)
