BFA London League 2012-13

Introducing the new British Foosball Association London League

The BFA London League is the first of its kind: A season-long, multi-venue, multi-table competition with a new exciting team format designed to find out just who is the best team in London!

As part of a new national structure, the top teams from the BFA London League will automatically qualify for the BFA National League finals day, the winner of which will get the chance to represent Great Britain in the newly-formed ITSF European Champions League! There are also cash prizes for the top teams in the BFA London League. Just for playing once a month with your team members/mates. Don’t hesitate to join in the fun…

How to enter:

• To enter is simple: All you need is a table (doesn't need to be your own) and 3 friends (teams consist of a minimum of 4 players).
1. Once you’ve got your team of 4 together (you can add more players to your squad later on if you want), you can register your new official BFA Club here: http://www.britfoos.com/node/add/club. Already have a club? No problem, just email your team details directly (email below).
2. When you have registered your details with the BFA, you will receive an email notification to finalise your team registration with the London League.
3. Leagues will be created and fixtures drawn, the league begins!

Registration and Entry Fees:

The BFA London League has the same pricing structure as the BFA League

How does it work?

League structure

• Registered teams for this year’s BFA London League will be divided into regions to minimize travel.
• Each registered team will play home and away fixtures against each opponent in their region.
• There will be approximately one league match per month (depending on entries) with a break in December.
• Team Captains will have a given window of around 3-4 weeks in which to complete each match (more details below). Arranging exact fixture dates is the responsibility of Team Captains.

Club/Team structure:

• Each Club must have a registered Club Chairman as the League Director's main point of contact for Club issues
• Each team must have a registered Team Captain as League Director's main point of contact for Team issues
• Each team must have a minimum of 4 players and a maximum of 10 players including the Team Captain.
• Registered BFA Clubs may enter more than one team into the BFA London League, providing each team has a minimum of 4 players. All players must be registered and paid for.

Match structure:

• Each match consists of 4 singles and 6 doubles games in the designated order; with no-one playing more than 4 doubles games, or 2 singles and 2 doubles games.

(a) Team Captains must nominate the following singles players and doubles teams from any players within their squad, team sheets are exchanged by team captains prior to the match:

1st Singles (S1)
2nd Singles (S2)
1st Doubles (D1) (cannot include any player in Doubles 2)
2nd Doubles (D2) (cannot include any player in Doubles 1)
3rd Doubles (D3) (cannot include any singles player)

(b) Match order:

1 – D1 -v- D1
2 – D2 –v- D2
3 – S1 –v- S1
4 – S2 –v- S2
5 – D3 –v- D3
6 – S2 –v- S1
7 – S1 –v- S2
8 – D1 –v- D2
9 – D2 –v- D1
10 – D3 –v- D3

• Each game is first to 7 goals.
• Each game won earns that team 1 point for the match.
• Each match won earns that team 2 points in the league, a draw equals 1 point, a loss 0 points.
• The winner of the league is the team with the most points at the end of the season.
• Prize fund: Minimum of 8 teams with minimum of 4 players each = minimum of £320 total prize money

Arranging match fixtures:

Once all the teams are registered and entered into the BFA London League, the regions will be decided according to geographical location and fixture windows will be published accordingly on http://www.ltfc.info/ website. Example:

Regional League 1 fixtures:

Window Fixture
01/10/12 – 28/10/12 Team A vs Team B; Team C vs Team D
29/10/12 – 25/11/12 Team D vs Team A; Team B vs Team C

• Once the match has been played, the winning Team Captain must submit full results using the LTFC web site. Log-in details will be provided to the Captain of each team.
• Current league standings and details of the next fixture to be played as well as the opposing team Captain can also be found on the LTFC website.
• Full BFA London League rules can be found here: (link to be added)

The idea is not only to find out who the best team in London is, but also to create a structure of the local side of the game. Fancy playing foos/babyfoot/table football regularly with your mates? Having a club scene is an excellent way to provide that and giving new players a reason to get involved, as well as providing a regular competitive fix for those that take it more seriously. Either way it should be great fun and a big step towards taking our game to the next level...

In depth rules, match sheets and forms, payment information, etc can all be found here:

There was a thriving London league with two divisions in the
mid 70's with about 15 or so teams of six players each. It was
run by a foosball table operator, Wally Osbourne who
also organised the Ealing pub team,'The Grange'. He, Speedy Campbell
and one or two others featured on Indoor League, the 'Nantes' of that era.
It was fairly multi-table in that some pub tables were unplayable
by visiting teams, two bar middle rods, five bar forward rods,
mirror image tables and so on.
Paul Martin ran the Kingston Polytechnic team and myself
the St Albans 'Blacksmith Barons' outfit. It ran for 4 or 5 years until
'Tournament Soccer' arrived with their regular competions
up and down the UK.
As weaker sides left the league their stronger players
became 'ringers' at remaining teams until a Man U,Chelsea,Arsenal,
Liverpool situation was reached and the league fizzled out mainly due
to the growth of Pool and Space Invader machines that gave more revenue
to the pub managers

Are we allowed to banter/discuss in this thread? If so, I can't wait to see team 'Central' play on Queen Mary's Garlando :D, it's a work of art.. truly.

Banter is mandatory in this thread.

Final result from first fixture window:

Victoria's Secret 6 - 4 Absolutely Deloitteful London

Also, I'd be up for having a friendly match or maybe even a London League DYP at some point in one of the venues...anyone else interested? If you're unsure then know that Bareham is in...

You play for a rubbish team

From how I read this it might be hard to sort that out, unless you mean a general London DYP/get-together then definitely! It'd especially be good if some of the newer players could come along, I'm thinking about some of the Queen Mary guys as an example that seemed really into it and would probably be amazed at how high the skill-level of foosball can be (I don't think me and Alex on a FAS really represented the skill-level very well :P).
