Venue Listings - please tell us about new or dead venues

Post by Boris » Thu Feb 22, 2007 6:18 pm

A full list of venues appears on the BFA venue listings page:
http://www.britfoos.com/WhereToPlay/Locations.php

However most of these listings are at least 5 years old, and probably well over 50% will no longer have tables.  If you are thinking of visiting a venue please ring in advance to avoid disappointment.

Please check the venue listings in your area and using this thread let us know about any new venues, dead venues (no longer has a table etc), changes of name or details etc.

This will allow the venue listings to be kept more up to date.

Tip - If you want to find out about new venues the best way is to find out who operates pool tables/jukeboxes/bandits in your local pubs (usually the operator has a sticker with a phone number) and give them a ring to ask if they have any footie tables on site locally where you can play.

Speaking of venues - would be great to get the Irish venues into the database: http://www.britfoos.com/venues/map
First stop Europe, then the world etc..

The Osborne Bar in Edward Street Tralee has a very cheap home play table for free play. I would feel bitter paying money to play it, but for free in a brilliant bar, it's not awful. It's the best of the cheap, small kiddies' tables I've seen.

Am I correct in saying that the Czech Inn in Dublin's Temple Bar area only has one table now?

I went into An Bróg on Oliver Plunkett Street, Cork to offer to install a coin op to replace their riciculously battered table only to find that they had installed a new table 2 weeks earlier. It was in a closed off section that only seems open at night time. The barman said it had a glass cover.

Sober Lane in Cork will have a glass covered Garlando coin-op installed temporary for January 2012.

As far as I know long gone. The last time I was up there and that was years ago the table was in shite.
Des gave Jock a rubber bearing to fix table. He handed it in behind the desk. Then it went missing so
god only knows where it went to? Bloop happens
I love Fireball ! I love Tornado more but mostly I love winning. But I hate cnuts whinging
about rules. Trying to put honest players off their game !

Foosball in Cork:

Just checked out the Old Oak on Oliver Plunkett St. Rumours that they have a table and a regular competition are untrue.

Checked out Sober Lane on Sullivan's Quay. Their proposal to have a table installed for the quiet month of January is yet to happen.

There's a glass-covered Roberto Sport table in the Mardyke Tavern behind the Courthouse.

An Bróg on Oliver Plunkett St. have a minor improvement. Their old battered horribly badly maintained table has been replaced with a second-hand glass covered Garlando table. It is in a section of the pub that is not always open. Not sure if it depends on the time of day or the amount of customers. Unfortunately it was in need of oiling and in a quite dark section of the pub. The overhead light was red, making the yellow ball hard to see. But at least the glass cover was reasonably clean and there was only a small bit of a reflection from it.

About 10 years ago Geoff Brice operated a Garlando glass-top in the Hat & Feather pub in Bath where the men were painted in fluorescent colours (the ball was in those days dayglo orange) under a UV light, so it didn't disturb the ambient lighting in the rest of the venue. Took a bit of getting used-to...

Boris, thanks for the great suggestion, but I'm actually amazed that they replaced the old one in the first place.
For years and after many complaints from myself and doubtless others, until a month or so ago the table had a rough, potholed surface, bent bars, missing men, broken men sellotaped together, 3 handles on 8 bars etc. etc. I'd doubt we'd get them to paint the men and buy new fluorescent balls, considering the new table wasn't even oiled.

As to lube the inner rod of a Garlando glass top you need to open the cabinet, so asking the landlord to borrow the key or open up the table once a week or so to apply a bit of lube (best to use a tissue to apply to avoid drips and clean off the old burry stuff) - if necessary Garlando cabinet keys can be borrowed or bought, but better to ask first.

Upstairs in Bar Nua in the Student Centre in University College Cork, there's a badly lit Garlando coin-op with a glass cover (now removed). It was badly lubricated too.

I'll be installing 2 coin-operated Tornados (50cent per game) in the Old College Bar in UCC (University College Cork) tonight.

There is a table in City Limits Comedy Club on Coburg Street in Cork, but I can't remember what kind (it was years ago) and it was very badly lit. I heard it was still there a couple of months ago, so assume it still is.

My 2 Tornados (50c for 9 balls) in University College Cork Old Student Bar will be out of action from May 29th until September as the bar will be closed for the summer holidays. I'm in negotiations to find homes for them over the summer.

I've just moved one of my Tornado tables from University College Cork Old College Bar (upstairs from the Main Restaurant) to the Central Bar in Rathcormac in County Cork, just off the Dublin-Cork motorway. So that's one Tornado in each now at 50c for 9 balls.
College Bar not re-opened yet.
