Goalie wars & Forward Shootout Rules

Post by Bren » Sun Mar 20, 2011 7:54 pm

The Bath Tournament approches fast and I realise on Friday there will probably be a need for me to know the rules of both Goalie wars and Forward shoot out. I know what the aim & basic principle of both games is but I don't know the details of the rules like how do you kick off (pass wait one second?) can you stop the ball in pinned position? can you snake in goalie wars etc.. A quick rundown of the rules for both would be much appreciated...can't quite believe it but I've played neither before at a tournament.

Forward Shootout

You toss a coin to choose side or ball.

You begin on the 3 bar in the standard way using the ready protocol.

You have the usual 3-bar time limit of 15 seconds to shoot once.

You turn has finished

- if the ball goes in the goal
- if the ball enters and then leaves the 2bar/goalie area
- if the ball goes off the table
- if the defender stops the ball
- if you run out of time

You can shoot any legal shot you want.

Goalie Wars

You toss a coin to choose side or ball.

You begin on the 2 bar in the standard way using the ready protocol.

You have the usual 2-bar time limit of 15 seconds to shoot.

Unlike FSO, Goalie Wars can be continuous, but the following rules apply...

If the ball enters and leaves your 2bar/goalie area and goes dead in the middle, it is given to your opponent to restart.
If the ball enters and leaves your 2bar/goalie area but the returns without re-entering your opponent's 2bar area (e.g. after hitting another rod), it is given to your opponent to restart.

I think all other standard rules apply, you can shoot any legal shot you want etc.

The one thing I'm not sure about is whether a ball hit off the table is given to the opponent to serve (ITSF rules) or given to the person who conceded the previous goal (old Tornado rules). I expect it's now ITSF.

FSO: Your turn also ends if you lose possession of the ball, backwards say.

So need to add to the end of "Your turn has finished when:":
- when the ball leaves your possession

In which case the whole thing can be simplified to :

Your turn has finished when one of the following becomes true (in this order):
- 15 seconds expire (after completion of ready protocol)
- the ball goes in the goal
- the ball leaves your possession

Therefore you can't score an own goal in FSO.

Goalie War:

I think the time limit in GW is 10 seconds, not 15.

If the ball goes off the table I think it goes to the person with serve. (ITSF has nothing to say on the GW rules).

Also, if the ball is stopped or pinned for more than 3 seconds you have to move the ball to another player figure before shooting.

By which you mean FSO?
