Tornado just appeared with BIN £250

Post by Max » Tue Jan 17, 2012 5:09 pm

Just spotted this come up on Ebay in the last hour - I'm after a French table but for the little I know about Tornados' this seems a very good price so guess someone should be quick...not sure if it breaks any forum rules (listing is nothing to do with me) but wanted to post it quick to hopefully benefit a member here. :)

Potentially $150 for a Tornado if there are no bids. I'll have to keep an eye on that!

It is a brown-marble cabinet which means it is probably 15-20 years old. These were very good quality tables in their day (most old players agree they were better-made than newer Tornados), but watch for dead spots on the cabinet walls or warping if it has not been well looked-after or got damp at some point. 15-20 years is a long time!

Just had a check back - ended with 0 bids, so it didn't even sell for the £150!

Well then now is the time to contact the seller and make a private offer. They will be happy to make the sale after failing on eBay, especially as it will be free of sale charges.

It would be sneaky if you did it while the auction was still running, but once it's over it's fine!

He ended it early and it will have sold already. It was bid on the first day (which automatically removed the BIN) - the seller then ended the listing (in 99% of cases he would have negotiated a sale during the auction via email/PM to avoid seller fees) - before ending the listing he needs to cancel the bids on the listing first.

If he did that then he broke eBay terms of service and may also have broken the law (though I'm not certain about that).

Forgive me but you must be very new to eBay :? - that is a completely normal and very common practise on eBay. Against the eBay rules of course but it happens all the time. If the seller is not a business (or big time) seller on preferential rates then he can offer a better deal as he doesn't pay the 10% or so seller fee. Can work for the buyer too in that way to negotiate the price down but you lose eBay/Paypal protection etc so buyer beware - different with something like this though as you would go and view it and pay cash.

Max, why do you think I must be new to eBay?

(Why would you say that?)

Sorry for any offence caused - I thought twice about posting that but could not think of any better way to put it - once again apologies if I offended you. :(

Really just trying to make the point that it is such common practise that I guessed most people would be aware that it happens all the time. As you say it is against eBay regs but most people don't have much sympathy for eBay.
