Free Trips to the Tornado World Championships 2014 in Dallas, Texas!

We are giving away 6 FREE Packages including flights to the Tornado World Championships held in Dallas, Texas in August 2014 to be won by the following:

Top 3 players
Top Semi Pro player
Top female player
Top Amateur/Novice player

For the purposes of these prizes, rankings will be frozen from July 1st when the new rankings are published. This means that for example an Amateur-ranked player on July 1st is eligible for the Top Amateur/Novice player package to be won at the end of the Series, regardless of whether he/she moves up a rank by the time the Series finishes.

Qualifying events: Open Singles and Open Doubles combined

Points are awarded by finishing position in Open Singles and Open Doubles:

Position - Series Points
1st - 20
2nd - 18
3rd - 16
4th - 14
5th - 12
7th - 10
9th - 8
13th - 6
17th - 4
25th - 2
below - 0

Each tournament in the series carries the same weighting regardless of turnout. Players accumulate points at each tournament in the series to determine their overall series ranking.

We have deliberately made the points close to keep the race as close as possible. This means that even if you don't have great results in your first few tournaments you will still be able to catch up, and those that get off to a great start wont be able to rest on their laurels.

Important change to the points-scoring system:

We have received feedback that due to the nature of the points structure, players are realistically going to need to attend almost all tournaments to be in with a shout of winning the trip, and this commitment may deter some from taking part at all. Whilst we want to encourage players to come to as many tournaments as they can, we don't want to put people off from the start either so there is going to be an important rule change:

Your best 5 tournament results on the tour will be taken into account with regards to the leaderboard for the trips to the 2014 World Championships.

That means, if you attend all 8 events, your 5 best tournament results (OS & OD combined) will count towards the rankings. If you can only attend 5 events then those 5 will count towards the rankings, and you wont be at a severe disadvantage to someone that has attended all 8. There is still an incentive to attend all 8 because you can try to perfect your best 5 results as much as possible.

E.g. Player A attends all 8 tournaments, his points are:

20 - 30 - 34 - 20 - 10 - 24 - 28 - 30

His lowest scores of 10, 20 and 20 are removed to give him an overall score of 146

We have listened to the feedback and hope this will encourage more travelling players to attend these tournaments, knowing that they don't have to make all 8 tournaments and still have a fair chance of winning the trip.

Standard Tournament Event Schedule:

19:30 Draw-Your-Partner

Saturday:

11:00 Registration & Practice

Event Format:

We are offering high quality prizes. In order to determine the winners we need high quality formats:

All events are Double Elimination (DE).

Open SIngles & Open Doubles: Winner's bracket: 5.5 Loser's Bracket 5.3
All other events: Winner's bracket 5.3 Loser's bracket 5.3

5.5 = First to 5 goals in a game, best of 5 games in a match
5.3 = First to 5 goals in a game, best of 3 games in a match

Schedule comments:

We have decided to make 6 of the 8 tournaments one day events. This means you guys don't have to fork out on pricey London accommodation if you want to enter all the events (for those that do, there are several good hotels nearby - see below). There is a lack of one day tournaments in the calendar and it's been mentioned a few times that there is demand to see one day tournaments return, so we'll see how this works out. We're kicking this off at 12pm to allow players plenty of time to travel to the tournament on the day. We have included Semi Pro, Amateur, Women and Mixed events alongside the Open events to try to make the tournaments appealing to the majority of the player base. At each tournament there will also be a fun evening event to enter if you wish.

Registration:

Registration for all events opens from 11am. Registration will close 10 minutes before each event is due to start.

Tables:

Each tournament will be run on 8 BRAND NEW Tornado tables.

Prize Fund:

£12,000 estimated value of total UK Tornado Series Prize Fund and packages. Packages have a (more or less) fixed value, tournament prize fund depends on turnout.

This is awesome!

Are you aware that this first date clashes with the Garlando worlds?

Hi Mike,

Yes we are aware, however it is the only date in July that we can do I'm afraid.

Here are the dates to put in your calendar:

Sat July 13

Sat August 31

Sat September 21

Sat October 26

Sat November 16

Sat-Sun January 18-19

Sat February 22

Sat-Sun March 15-16

All tournaments will be run at the Isha Lounge in Kingston, London* and they will all carry the same weighting towards the points race to Worlds, regardless of turnout.

If you want an idea of what the Isha Lounge is like, well, we have a Race To Vegas DYP series happening almost every Friday night starting tomorrow http://forum.britfoos.com/forum/viewtop ... =47&t=9960

As you can see most of these are one dayers, so no need to spend money on expensive London hotels. Just come along for the day, play a load of foosball and see if you can win a free trip to the Worlds ;)

*we are in discussion with another venue in Ealing, West London about them hosting one of these but nothing is confirmed yet.

More details to come soon. Any questions? Just fire away.

Nice one Steve, this makes a lot of sense. Have you thought of how you'll decide who wins if too many players tie on points (not that likely, but more likely now than before!)?

Surely either a play-off or a good old-fashioned duel?

might need clarification of the points counting towards the total too. e.g. per tournament or per event?
a player's best 5 OD and 5 OS result is not going to be the same 5 tournaments if they entered all.

"Alright we'll call it a draw"

Alex - it's tournament results that count - i.e. your 5 best overall tournament (combined OS and OD) results, not your 5 best OS results and your 5 best OD results.

Tich asked me to pass on that these tournaments are suspended until further notice due to scheduling difficulties with other events.

These events need to be written into the Britfoos Tournament Schedule as SUSPENDED as they are misleading
http://www.britfoos.com/tournament-schedule/2013

Damnit anyway. I've booked the flights and was just about to book the accommodation.

This happened me with the Tornado German Open in Frankfurt, September 2012 too but I had the flights AND accommodation booked for that. What has a guy to do to get to a Tornado or Fireball competition?

I'm only playing properly for 2.5 years and bought flights to get to 5 competitions...two of which were cancelled. Is it not bad enough that there is only 1 guy to play with in Cork...a foosball deprived area of a foosball deprived country?

I'm going to just keep going to Amsterdam. ClubFoos over there is very reliable, runs competitions every week and has many passionate players.

I can't ever see a Fireball event happening again. Tornado events would be great and hopefully will come back.

Why not try the new Leonhart events, although not your favourite table the events are reliable and they have been received really well.

Regards,

Ben
