Thank you to everyone who came up to the tournament!

Big thank you to everyone who helped out- all the Lithuanians on Friday - Jon, Chris and Mase for helping out with the desk all over the weekend - all of Keele, Jody, Greta, Patrick for helping set everything down Sunday. And to Sarah for being around until last thing Sunday and then again Monday morning getting the tables to the storage place.

And to Boris for doing all of the above, and organising the tournament. Quality effort.

Couldn't have done it without any of your efforts.

Thanks to Sarah for playing OD and PD with me, although your carrying skills will need to improve if we're going to keep playing together  Stuart for helping us fist the pro-am winners in the group stage, and Vicky for being a great laugh in the DYP.

Also thank you to so many people for being so lovely to me on Sunday. 1st time I've had a birthday cake, probably, in 15 years. And the card signed by so many of you really was lovely. It was all really appreciated. I love you all x

I'd also like to thank everyone involved, tournaments are getting a little bit rarer nowadays so its nice to have Liverpool being run every year so consistently!

Congratulations again to Bundy for the IRL ding.

It was good to see everyone again, its almost been a year since the last tournament I could get to :o

So glad that I got convinced into coming this weekend! Was an awesome tournament.

Firstly a big thank you to Joe for his hospitality for the whole weekend and how kindly he treated all of KeeleFoos. Joseph you are a legend and I hope you had an extremely happy birthday :D

A big thanks to Nick Wen for supplying me with a rather awesome high all of Sunday, your play was unbelievable at times, even if you did always ask me to finish the games off! Getting knocked out by 2 PM teams and not dropping a single game except in those two games is pretty damn impressive

I didn't really have any lows which was great. Even though I haven't really played competitively or even at all since I finished uni in July, and didn't particularly have a pass or a consistent shot I managed to battle my way through a lot of games through a mixture of pick up shots and stout defending.

Definite highlight of the weekend though, standing outside and seeing what we all assumed was a bird poo only to discover a used condom had been dropped out the window. and the barman's almost completely nonplussed reaction.

Looking forward to the next tournament (anyone know whats coming up on the calendar?)

Memorabilia...
* Jody organising Joe's birthday cake and everyone singing happy birthday to him!
* playing some awesome ProAm games with Joe Redhead ("Mr Calm") and beating some very strong teams
* losing to Shovie in OS 4-6 in the 5th game after having a shot to win...
* ... and then not showing up when I played WIlliam Leung
* losing to Rob Davey in SS in the 3rd game, again after having a shot to win
* playing with Chris Lyall in OD, the sweetest 5 and some truly great shooting
* playing SD with Rob Davey, some awesome 5 bar D and shooting
* losing in the final of SD to Benti & Michael Ueberbach after taking the first game
* Mike Amsden shooting really well on me in our OD match
* really enjoying mixing up passing and shooting from the 2
* meeting new people and making new friends!
* waiting for a long time outside Riley's waiting to be let in, yet again
* events starting late and overrunning yet again - this meant that I missed the last train to London, and had to spend Sunday night in Liverpool and buy a fresh train ticket in the morning, costing me an extra £100
* to compensate for this, a cooked breakfast for £3!!
* senior events starting much later than scheduled
* wondering yet again why the main events have to start 2 hours late at 11am
* enjoyed 2BRB and some great swapping wins with Chris Lyall
* thank you to Joe and Boris and all the desk and table helpers for all their hard work running this tournament

Dave - The venue doesn't officially open until 11am but the staff opened up an hour early for us - we couldn't start any earlier. However we didn't realise that they now shut at midnight rather than 2am.

We looked at a different (hotel) venue which would have been perfect but would have cost £500 minimum.

First and foremost, I would like to thank the organizers for a well-handled tournament. Also, Joe and Boris who welcomingly introduced themselves to me and everyone else who have been so welcoming and friendly to me with my first tournament abroad. Liverpool gave me lots of good memories that I'll bring back home with. Some of the highlights of my weekend are :

-Playing OD with Andrew Trapmore and making it to the 9th place with lots of fun and laughs in between. Great goalie, pulled off lots of great blocks, can't really complain about the loss to Benti as he played incredible with a couple of deadman pin shots that Andrew and I were left looking at each other with blank faces. Thanks again Andrew for partnering me on such short notice and it was loads of fun playing with you. :D

-Playing AD with Przemek Pojawa and making it to the finals. First time I've ever seen someone shooting a snake shot from the back and actually scoring lol. Losing to Alex Zalantai and James Oates in the finals, with Alex's ever aggressive style of game which appears to be kryptonite to me and not forgetting James's good blocking and clearing of the ball as well. :D

-Playing Pro-am with Jody Walding and making it to the 5th place. She played consistent and solid defending goalie throughout the tournament. However, I've not been so consistent and my shot, at times have been rather shaky. Sorry Jody for that but I have still loads of fun playing with you. :D

-Playing DYP with Matthew Warr and coming in at 3rd place. Matt showed that not only he can shoot well at a young age, but also shows no fear of shooting against the best players in the country. Lots of fun playing with Matt during the DYP and I'm certain that his game would only get better from here and then. :D

-Playing SPD with Jude Flitzgerald and making it to the 9th place. He taught me alot of things and the most important lesson that he had thought me was that "losing does not matter, as long as you've learned from it." Had great fun playing with Jude as well :D

Finally, I would like to thank all my partners again and I had fun playing with each and everyone of you. I hope to see you guys soon! : D
*random fact*- Had McDonalds for dinner on Friday night, McD again for breakfast on Sat morning, McD for dinner on Sat night, McD for breakfast on Sun morn and McD again for dinner on Sun night. Oh god :?

I think it's fair to say I enjoyed this one.
  • 5th in OD with the Slag - highlight of the weekend. Beating Benti and Jorg 3-0, the third leg was 5-0, and I pretty much bricked Benti
  • Winning Goalie Wars
  • Winning the DYP with Greg
  • 5th in FSO for a man with no real 3-bar was a good effort
  • Equally surprised by 5th in SPS
  • 5th in SPD with Meng was great fun
  • Not so happy with 14th in PD or 30th in PS - I was absolutely knackered by then
Was great as ever to see a few people, have too much to drink and somehow get away with it the morning after. I can't wait for the day when I go to a table football tournament where the food is exclusively takeaway-style food though...

On my part:

- Played Goalie Wars and Forward Shoot Out for the first time and really enjoyed both. GW is all about "smash it hard and hope it goes in", and there's a certain pleasure in that; FSO is different and really quite tense, particularly in the games which got to 6-6. Amazingly I managed to sneak a win past eventual winner Nubbert and came in 5th.
- Got a good partner in Marius Suliga in DYP, excellent shooting from the back. We had to be quite brutal in snaking at Bundy's beginner partner Vicky (sorry) only because Joe's pull shoot was phenomenal and we wouldn't have won otherwise.
- OS, it was close but conclusive vs William Leung and his scary pins and then Bundy - again on fire having just lost a close one with Rich Marsh - got to 2-0 in the second game before I got the ball on my 2 bar for the first time, and that was that really.
- Promotion to SP meant a first outing in Pro Singles, despite only winning 1/5 I rather enjoyed it, lost 7-6 close ones to Sarah Brice and one of the Lithuanians (Justas?), but got destroyed by Michael the Pole from Kirkcaldie.
- The less said about SPD the better, Darren and I didn't really manage to build up any momentum at all.
- Watching a [legitimate] Amateur completing a victory in OS (winner's bracket e.g. best of 5) over a [legitimate] Pro-Master. How often does that happen? It won't happen again in this case after the exchange of mounds of bonus points. Franky modestly put it down to "luck only", not at all, down to hard effort and excellent play, well done.
- Pick-up games. Please please please let's have a random not-Garlando table at every tournament. I rather satisfactorily beat up Shovie (his phrase, not mine) on the Bonzini and got to shoot a jet against Jet. Also thanks to others who sated my pretty-much-continuous foos appetite, Scott and Josh in particular.
- Driving through Saturday night to Luton went much better than anticipated thanks to Red Bull and GPS. Trying to sleep curled up on the floor of the airport waiting for my early morning flight, surrounded by menacing drunk East Europeans, was less fun. And I had to bail on SPS / 2BRB and missed all the doubles fun on Sunday.

Also BFA AGM, delighted to be on the committee and looking forward to supporting and promoting our collective addictive and obsessive hobby for the next 12 months.

Seconded. I spent much more of this tournament playing bonzini than garlando. Many thanks to both Will and Shovie for jumping on the table with me whenever I was on it!

i managed to drag my work colleague and friend, Saman Mohamed to this tournament again, allthough he probably wishes i hadn't now, this is a lot different to playing on our blocky foot Garlando at work with them horrilble black handles and white balls! but here's what happened.

firstly dyp - partnered Jody, who played brilliantly, she was blocking midfield passes and shots from the back really well, scoring goals, all i had to do was watch! Think we were a bit unlucky, firstly we beat Chris Lyall and Mantas Motieka 7-6, but then lost our next 2 games 7-6 and 7-5, so only missed out by 3 goals! really enjoyed it though, thanks Jody.

In all the singles games we didn't do well at all, i got to play Julian in the open who i think is a Novice, so i won one game but then lost the next 2. Saman was unlucky, in the losers bracket he had to play Benti, who was put in the losers bracket because he arrived late, obviously Saman didn't win! in AS i came second in the group but then lost in the knock out round,in SPS i won 2 games but wasn't enough to go through, overall i think we should of done better!

Open Doubles! well normally we play 2 games then go out! but this was probably our best event all weekend and most enjoyable for different reasons, first we played James watson and Stuart Hattle, we beat them, in a close game, but then we had to play Rob and Olga! Rob gave us a sample of Foosball at the highest level! beating us 5-0 5-0 5-1, some how i scored 1 from the back! but great to watch! Then we came up against a very good pair in the losers bracket in Michel Kurij and Przemyslaw Pojawa! we won the first game, they won the second, in the final game it was 4-4, so deuce rules came in, we eventually won 8-6! a great game, but then we got to play the Austrians in our next game, and that was us finished in the open!
in AD and SPD we won a couple of games but didnt do as well as we expected.

Overall i think the standard of players at this tournament was far higher than last years Liverpool Open, or i am getting worse! still enjoyed it and looking forward to the next one.

finally thanks to all that made the tournament happen! :D

Only came down saturday night in preparation for Sundays events but was well worth the trip!

Downsides:

The food at the all you can eat Masala Hot Resteraunt... pretty poor quality and for some reason had a few chinese dishes chucked in even though it was an indian resteraunt, not to mention the almost certainly transexual waitress/waiter who served us!

Highlights:

Obviously seeing all the players! Its been a while since I made it to a UK event and so it was good to see the old faces and catch up with everyone... Some things never change.. Rich Potts with a bucket of Jagerbomb! The tweed suit was new though! Hopefully i'll be making it to a lot more of the UK events, this event has definitely given me the bug again :)

FINALLY winning Amatuer Doubles and doing so with Alex Z, tried a couple of times so glad we did it at last, winning a great close game in the final against the fellow Bristol boys Nick and Sammy who played really well and had great tournaments themselves!... Sandbaggings over Nick ;)

OD - Playing Benti and Jorg I think?? With Fossilised Oates (Dave) and going 1-0 up in games 4-1 up in the second to eventually bottle it.. let Jorg score 3 identical shots from the back in a row and then lose the following 2 games. Good experience though and faired much better than we thought we would!

And last but definitely not least... Winning Pro-Am with Rob! Losing our first game in the groups to Joe B and his partner but coming back to beat Louis and James in the Final to which I know Louis was happy about because he got the medal he desperately wanted.. If you're reading this Louis - I hope you managed to get some Ribbon for that bad boy! ;)

All in all a great day and thank you again to everyone for partnering me and making it another great event! Looking forward to seeing you all at the next one!

James

Yes, that was shite

Enjoyed the tourney though, mostly for the social as my playing was also shite

I tried the place a couple of years ago - always a bad sign when a place tries to do more than one style of cuisine cos usually neither is any good. There's a place in central Bristol which is similarly awful.

Wok n Go was good for quick, tasty and relatively healthy meals over the weekend.

I'm afraid Liverpool isn't a good city for a curry - on the positive side if you go down to the traffic lights and turn left you are only 2 blocks away from Chinatown!

The Maharajah was amazingly good, some of the best South Indian food I've had, anywhere. The Idly Sambar was incredible. http://www.maharajaliverpool.co.uk/

Another thing I meant to add about the tourney.

I had wanted to talk to all the seniors present, because there were a lot, about getting a posse together for the Garlando Worlds. It would be great to get a senior UK team for that, and it's a great "try out" opportunity for Nantes.

But it was impossible to get everyone together at the same time! At any given point half the people are playing.

I would like to suggest, for Warwick and going forward, that we have a short break when there are no games being played, at a specific pre-announced time. It could be as short as 15 minutes, and could be used for Team GB meetings, team practice sessions, team discussions about WCS attendance, referee discussions/clinic, or just for going out for food or whatever.

Anyway, apart from that, which of you seniors, present at Liverpool, would be interested in forming a senior team for Garlando WCS? I will repost this last bit in the Garlando WCS thread. Please go there to respond...

My highlights:
- Funny comments from Europeans after singles matches again. e.g. this after beating someone in OS: "You score lots of goals when the defender isn't there, but that's easy. The true mark of how good you are is if you can score when the defender is there."
- Had a great time partnering Matthew Robinson in pro-am - you've got some solid blocking and scored some good goals from the back too. After a good run we lost the semi-final 7-6 to Louis Tan and James "nourished by Meng" Watson - it was ball for ball to 6-6, when James unleashed an awesome push wrench from the 2 to win the match (and then got mobbed by Meng who was almost tearful with joy at what he had just witnessed).
- Losing to Scott Walding 5-4 5-4 1-5 2-5 7-5 in the last 32 of OS, then winning 5 games in the losers to come 7th.
- Having to wait outside again on Sunday morning. Boris and Benti changing positions in the draw. The Darlington-Liverpool match being cancelled at short notice. The AGM being put back to Saturday. The venue closing earlier than expected. Urgh.
- Developing a much improved fist-bump and using it with all my doubles partners.
- Partnering Rich Marsh's girlfriend Vicky in mixed doubles, and almost beating Rich and Greta in what Rich described as "the scariest moment of my life".
- 2BRB with Meng - an experience and a half.
- Winning forward shootout despite only scoring at 25% throughout. Obv I'm a defender at heart.
