12 ITSF Garlando tables with official ITSF High Control Kicker Balls

Ranking:

If you are a new player to tournaments, you will be ranked Novice. The great thing about being a Novice is that you pay very low entry fees and get to enter loads of events if you want to!

Tournament players will be seeded according to their BFA Ranking

Non-resident players not currently in the BFA Rankings will be seeded a minimum of Semi-Pro, unless they email the tournament organiser in advance with a letter from an ITSF-affiliated national federation appealing for them to be given a lower rank. Such requests will be taken into consideration when ranking players.

ITSF Top 100 will be considered Pro. ITSF Top 32 will be considered Pro-Master. Any player ranked in the top category in their national ranking list will be ranked at least Pro. Travelling Players NOT covered here will be ranked at the Tournament Organiser's Discretion - please email Stephen_lyall@hotmail.com.

The rank levels will be fixed using the UK/ITSF rankings that were valid on 1st October 2012.

Event Schedule:

You are encouraged to pick and choose which events you want to play. Many players will decide to play in everything they are eligible for, though you are welcome to decide to enter just a few events if you feel that works best for you.

Remember: you must be on site and have paid your entry fees no later than half an hour before the published start time of your event. If you do not, you will not be allowed to enter your event

Event Eligibilty:

ITSF World Championship Qualifying Events are open only to British Citizens or to overseas citizens who are normally resident in the UK and who have been continuously resident in the UK for a minimum of 5 years and who have not represented another country in ITSF competitions. Players entering Senior events must have been born on or before 31/12/1961. Players entering Junior Doubles must have been born on or after 01/01/1994.

ITSF World Championships Qualification:

There are extra wildcard qualifying spots available this year:

The top 2 teams in Open Doubles, Women's Doubles, Senior Doubles, and Junior Doubles, and the top 2 players in Open Singles, Women's Singles, Senior Singles and Junior Singles will qualify for the 2013 ITSF World Championships.

The qualifying teams must be willing to pay their flights and accommodation to the World Championships, and must provide proof of booking to the BFA at least 2 months before the event. If you want to compete at the Worlds it is advisable to ensure your doubles partner is also committed to do so.

In the event that any qualified player in a Singles event is unable to compete at the World Championships, the next player (according to the results of the event at the UK Championships) that is able to compete will be selected.

In the event that any qualified team in a Doubles event is unable to compete at the World Championships, the process for selection of replacement teams is as follows:

- If one member of the team is able to compete, that player may choose any other eligible player as a replacement partner.
- If neither member of the team is able to compete, the next team (according to the results of the event at the UK Championships) will qualify.
- If that team is unable to compete, the process starts again.

In the event that the above processes encounter 2 or more players/teams that are equal according to the results of the UK Championships event, a tie-breaker (format to be decided) will be played to decide who qualifies.

Format Descriptions:

DE (Double Elimination):

This is a tournament system whereby you are entered into what looks like a normal knockout chart (called the "Winners' Bracket") - only it has some hidden tricks. When (if!) you lose a match, instead of being "out", you are actually just moved into what is called the "Losers' Bracket". Everyone who loses just one match gradually plays off against each other in the "Losers' Bracket" whilst those who keep winning in the Winners' Bracket proceed gradually to the final. In the end, there is a person who has won the Winners' Bracket and a person who has won the Losers' Bracket - and they play off against each other in the final. The basic thing to remember is that if you lose twice, you are out.

Groups:

Generally groups are run with 5-6 players/teams per group - each player/team plays each other player/team once, normally to 5 or 7 points. Generally the top 2 players/teams from each group qualify for a knockout stage.

SE (Single Elimination):

A knockout competition where if you lose, you are out.

Freeplay:

Freeplay just means that the tables will be available for anyone to come along to play free of charge.

Event Exclusivity:

Please note that players can enter only one of Pro Singles, Semi Pro Singles or Amateur Singles, and only one of Pro/Semi Pro Doubles or Amateur Doubles.

Players are able to enter any event that they can represent the UK for at the ITSF World Championships.

Travel:

By Car: the venue is located just of the A4053 ring road in Coventry close to the train station. If you’re travelling anticlockwise its one roundabout after the station and then turn left onto Butts Rd and left onto Albany road and then left again immediately and then the second left is Hertford place. Nearby there is a lot of space for parking as it is on the residential side of the ring road. A word of warning the Coventry ring road is terribly confusing so you might want leave a bit of extra time to navigate it.

By Train: the venue is a 5 minute walk from Coventry train station. Turn left as you leave the station and cross under the A429 and keep walking along the sidewalk next to main road until the hertford place is on the left.

By Coach: There is a national express coach in Coventry and the venue is about a 25 min walk away or you can get the 12 to the train station and walk from there. The megabus to Coventry actually stops on our campus which is a short walk to central campus and a 30 minute bus journey from there on the 12 and you would get off by the train station again.

I am very much looking forward to this. It's been too long since we've had a UK tournament.

I have just booked the Travelodge as well. The code didn't work, but I got the same price without any problems. Looking forward to it. The competition, not the Travelodge.

Stephen Lyall wrote:Players are able to enter any event that they can represent the UK for at the ITSF World Championships.
Just to clarify (as I have been asked to), the following players can enter the following 'ITSF' events

Men's Singles/Doubles - must be male to enter
Women's Singles/Doubles - must be female to enter
Junior Singles/Doubles - must be born on or after 01/01/1994 to enter
Senior Singles/Doubles - must be born on or before 31/12/1961 to enter

All players for the above events must be registered as British with the ITSF.

You may enter as many of the above events as you are eligible.

Women are not allowed to enter the Men's events as they cannot participate in this event at the ITSF World Championships.
Should any player qualify for multiple categories (top 2 in any of the above events), they must choose to enter only 1 of the events at the World Championships.

Thanks

Also, don't forget to pre-register

This hotel

Ibis Hotel Coventry South Whitley
£28 - £58 per night

Isn't 0.5 miles away. It is more like 3 miles. However it does have a 3 nights for the price of 2 deal running.

Correct - I assume the announcement means Ibis Hotel Coventry Centre, which is actually 0.5 miles away:

Hi all, is anyone going past Bicester on the way back home from this tournament and able to give me a lift? Obviously I'd share petrol costs, get you a drink and have a right larf with yers, etc.

Only just dawned on me that the Merseyside derby is on this Sunday. Any chance my OD could be delayed for the 2 hours it'll take us to beat Liverpool?

Just a final notice that if you wish to enter qualifying events for the ITSF World Championships at this tournament (i.e. Men's, Women's, Junior & Senior Doubles and Singles) you MUST be eligible to represent Great Britain at the ITSF World Championships. This means you are either a British Citizen or have lived in Britain for the last 5 years.

The Tournament Director has the right to refuse entry for failure to provide evidence of eligibility at his discretion - bring this with you!

If a player are registered as a different nationality with the ITSF but are willing and able to switch to UK before the World Championships then they are allowed to enter the qualifying events at the UKC.
