UK Championships 2010

Post by Bundy Volume 1 » Fri Oct 15, 2010 11:50 am

The British Foosball Association committee is happy to announce the

The British Foosball Association UK Championships 2010
Saturday 13th November 2010

All qualified participants in ITSF Open Events and Womens Events must pre-register with table selection by 8pm Friday 5th November
Players who fail to do this will be liable to pay full entry fees (no qualified/joint entry discounts).
Pre-registration for the other events is highly encouraged.

As the season finale this tournament will be used to select the UK Representatives for the 2011 ITSF World Championships held in Nantes, France.

Please note that this year for the Open events there are again extra qualifying spots for those who have NOT qualified via the usual qualification route (either by being in the POY Top 16 or as a top 3 finisher in an Open event this season). A qualifying round for each Open event will determine the final places for their respective main events. For those who have already qualified your place is safe in the main draw, however you will have to confirm by Friday 5th November that you are attending and (if necessary) who you are partnered with to ensure your place.

Number of qualifying spots available:

The final KO stage of both Open Singles and Doubles will be 16 teams. The number of qualifying places available will depend on how many pre-qualified players attend. There is no limit to the number of players who can enter the qualifying rounds.
Should 16 spaces in OS/OD be filled by qualified players, then a minimum of 2 qualifiers will be taken through to the KO stage

The Tournament Director has final say on all sporting decisions

Venue:

Riley’s Oxford
The County Club,
Between Towns Road,
Cowley, Oxford,
OX4 3LZ
Tel: 01865-749147
Website: http://www.rileys.co.uk/club/106/Oxford

Schedule:

Friday 12th November

tbc

Saturday 13th November

11am - Open Singles qualifiers
11.30pm - Open Doubles qualifiers
12pm - Junior Doubles, Women's Singles
3pm - Women's Doubles, Junior Singles, Senior Singles
4pm - Senior Doubles

The KOs will start as soon as qualifiers have finished. Qualified players must be ready to play from qualifier start times

Formats:

All main events will be Double Elimination; 1st to 5 best of 5 in the winners bracket, 1st to 5 best of 3 in the losers bracket. Teams play alternate games on each chosen table. If a match goes to the final game, a tie-break game is played 'tennis tie break' style with 1 ball on the first table then alternating 2 balls on each table until the winner emerges by 2 clear goals, with a maximum of 8 goals.
Qualification stages for OS/OD will be swiss, a 1st to 5 leg will be played on each players home table ( if players have the same home table type then 2 1st to 5 legs will be played on that table). If each player wins a leg then it will be a draw.

Event Seeding Details:

Events will be seeded based on their specific POY (additional POY event points found here).
Qualified players will always be seeded first in order of their POY, and the qualifiers will fill the lower positions based on their results in the qualifying stages. Should no qualifying stages occur then qualifiers will be seeded by their POY, but still below all pre-qualified players.

Doubles events will be seeded by Root Mean Squared. Qualified teams will be seeded first based on their POY. A none-qualified players playing with a pre-qualified player counts as a qualified team and will be seeded as such.

Entry fees:

Everyone pays £10 table fees.
Qualified players get free entry in the event/s which they have qualified for.
Flat entry fee for Open Singles Qualifying/Open Doubles Qualifying of £10 or £15 for both.
Flat entry fee for WS/WD/SS/SD of £10 per event or £15 for both (for non-qualifiers)
Free entry to novice juniors, others pay £5 per event plus £5 table fee

There will be no prize money for any events. The prize is getting to represent Britain at the ITSF World Championships!

Event Eligibility:

ITSF World Championship Qualifying Events are open only to British Citizens or to overseas citizens who are normally resident in the UK and who have been continuously resident in the UK for a minimum of 5 years and who have not represented another country in ITSF competitions. Players entering Senior events must have been born on or before 31/12/1959. Players entering Junior Doubles must have been born on or after 01/01/1992.

Due to new rules on who can play in the World Championships in 'Open' events, we will be adopting the same rules for the UKC. Therefore, women will not be able to play in Open Singles and Open Doubles, as they could not qualify to play these events at the Worlds.

The current POY Rankings for Open Singles, Open Doubles and Women's Singles can be found here

ITSF World Championships Qualification:

There are extra wildcard qualifying spots available again this year:

The top 2 teams in Open Doubles, Women's Doubles, Senior Doubles, and Junior Doubles, and the top 2 players in Open Singles, Women's Singles, Senior Singles and Junior Singles will qualify for the 2011 ITSF World Championships.

If you want to compete at the Worlds it is advisable to ensure your doubles partner is also committed to do so.

In the event that any qualified player in a Singles event is unable to compete at the World Championships, the next player (according to the results of the event at the UK Championships) that is able to compete will be selected.

In the event that any qualified team in a Doubles event is unable to compete at the World Championships, the process for selection of replacement teams is as follows:

- If one member of the team is able to compete, that player may choose any other eligible player as a replacement partner.
- If neither member of the team is able to compete, the next team (according to the results of the event at the UK Championships) will qualify.
- If that team is unable to compete, the process starts again.

In the event that the above processes encounter 2 or more players/teams that are equal according to the results of the UK Championships event, a tie-breaker (format to be decided) will be played to decide who qualifies.

The schedule and other details are being finalised and will be posted soon. Currently we've got open qualifiers beginning at 11 with the main events following soon after, and senior events beginning at 3. It's unlikely but possible for it to change.

The main incentive is of course to represent the UK in one of the 8 categories so i'm not sure why there would need to be prize money. I would ask two related questions:

* can the BFA avoid charging people to play?
* is there any sponsorship available for the winners, and if so, in which categories?

A final announcement from me, for this tournament;

Tournament Director - Richard Potts
Head Official - Boris Atha
Organiser - BFA Committee

I will not be attending this event due to prior commitments. Can those with quires via PM (you can always post in this thread) contact either of the above people, or another member of the BFA committee, regarding organisational issues.

Thanks.

Hi guys, for planning purposes it would be great to know if there are going to be Friday events.

I'm not bothered about what events or what time, just need to know whether I will be away from home Friday.

thank you if possible!

Erm...this one is. Promise.

Just to let you know - you can now pre register!

http://www.britfoos.com/registration/ukc2010

Just a reminder that all qualified players must pre-register before 5th November.
Pre-registration for everyone else would be greatly appreciated (if you know someone who does not use Britfoos can you please direct them to the pre-reg link) if you could still pre-reg by that deadline.
I'm sure I don't have to tell everyone the pressures of a 1 day event, and the need for everything to run as smoothly as possible avoiding any delays!

A list of pre-registered players will not appear online - in order to prevent those who know how to working out who they will play. This is an unfair advantage. Instead, once you pre-register, you will be privately contacted to let you know your form came through.

Thanks.

It's an unfair advantage being able to do maths? Really?

I think it would be fair either if the pre-reg'd teams are kept secret, or if the result of the draw is published, but otherwise those with Sport or knowledge of how it works have an advantage.

Those who are better players have an advantage too. That seems unfair. Let's disqualify them.

Guys, I think the form is mis-designed.

There shouldn't be a separate box for the Qual event and the Main event. There should only be a single entry point. You know whether a player needs to qualify by whether or not they are in the POY list.

At the moment it's possible to make conflicted entries, for example for someone on POY list to enter a qual event, or for someone to enter different table types for the qual and main events.
