Looks great Joe, well done for organising this.

Can I confirm is it 3000ltd, traditionally it was 3500ltd? No problem if it is just a few people might have read it as 3500ltd I know I did the first time.

Great to see another new venue and particularly one that isn't Bristol (I love Bristol ones but appreciate there are other people in the UK) or the North.

Once again congrats.

Mase

Ps remember to ask Dave O for balls he only has 20-24 left.

Looks good joe.

One thing, you have to make entry fees higher, £35 covers a pro master package which gets him 5 events plus table fees. The prize fund will be tiny.

Go to any other ITSF pro tour event and it is at least 20 euros per event no matter what rank you are. I understand your trying to cater to the University players who have to think about money etc but do you honestly think that any international player will book a flight to this tournament with a %100 payout after exspenses on a £35 package deal. It doesn't look attractive at all. We always make the same mistake, low entry fees=low prize money. The polish came to liverpool a couple of years ago, Snopek(marcin snopkowski) won everything and took 2nd in another event, do you ever wonder why he didnt return the next year?? because he only just broke even. £10 to enter OS at the UK Tornado Masters is a joke.

I don't want to go on about it, I thank you for putting on a tournament but to make it worthwhile to some good players you have to increase entry fee and create a decent prize pool. Eddie used to charge higher entry fees at the UK Masters and he still got decent turnouts, don't be afraid to charge more. If I won OD and OS at this tournament I don't think i would break even after hotel, food etc.

Rob, could you recommend a fair package deal for the pm/pro players? If others think it's fair to increase the price I'd be happy to.
I'm yet to submit the flyer et al to the itsf, so if we can sort this out quickly, then I can make the change.

Imo this is how the Entry should be.

Pro Master Package- £55 OS, OD, OM plus table fees. £15 savings

Pro Package - £55 OS, OD, OM, 3000ltd plus table fees. £15 Savings

Semi Pro Package- £45 OS, OD, HD, 3000ltd plus table fees. £15 Savings

Am Package -£45 OS, OD, AS, AD, 3000 ltd plus table fees. £15 savings.

Novice Package - £35 OS, OD, AS, AD 3000ltd plus table fees. £14 savings.

I put HD in the semi package instead of OM as there aren't many women over here and the ones that do play mixed %90 of the women will play with a Pro or a master. So the semi pro's get Handicapped instead as its worth the same in entry and there will be more entrants imo.

Entry fees per event.
PM PRO SEMI AM NOV
OS 25 20 15 10 10
OD 25 20 15 10 10
OM 10 10 10 10 10
WS 10 10 10 10 5
WD 10 10 10 10 5
AS 10 7
AD 10 7
HD 10 10 10 10 10
3000ltd 10 10 10 10
2BRB 5 5 5 5 5

I double the Women events entry fee compared to yours as I think the women are sick of winning WS or WD and only winning £7.50 each or something like that. Most of the women are at a similar level so they can fight it out for some more money and it makes it worth it if they win at least.

Let me know what you think.

Cheers
Rob

I appreciate this is a "Masters" event and perhaps should be treated differently to other events but that £35 is just way too much for me.
If I am honest, I probably wouldn't go anyway due to the location and the lack of novice events, but if I had been thinking about going, £35 would instantly change that. With no hopes of winning any prize money, I have no desire to fork out an extra £15.

Either way, feel free to ignore me, since I don't know what I'm on about.
Joe, I wish you all the best with the event.

If you think about it, it only works out at £6 for each event which I think is completely reasonable plus £5 table fee. Maybe include all the novelty events in the £35 too for novices. You have to remember, there would be more prize money on offer.

I've had a bit of a compromising tweak.

Pro-Master £55, Pro £45, Semi-Pro £35, Amateur £35, Novice £20

Pro-Master Packages include Open Singles, Open Doubles, Mixed doubles, Handicap, 2BRB + table fees - £10 saving
Pro Packages include Open Singles, Open Doubles, 3000ltd OR Mixed doubles, Handicap, 2BRB + table fees - £10 saving
Semi-Pro Package includes: Open Singles, Open Doubles, 3000ltd OR Mixed doubles, Handicap, 2BRB + table fees - £10 saving
Amateur Package includes: Open Singles, Open Doubles, 3000ltd OR Mixed doubles, Handicap, 2BRB, Amateur Singles, Amateur Doubles + table fees - £10 saving
Novice Package Includes: Open Singles, Open Doubles, 3000ltd OR Mixed doubles, Handicap, 2BRB, Amateur Singles, Amateur Doubles + table fees - £19 saving

Open events are now £20 for PMs, £15 for Pros.

If the Women want me to up the WS/WD entry fee then that's fine, like-wise with the seniors. If a few of them could let me know, then I can make changes.

Well, I don't play for prize money, too useless to stand a chance of winning any. That's just me though.

Cheers Joe, might work out affordable depending on travel and accom. I'm tempted at least.

Looks Good Joe

I will probably be up for this one.

Ferry with car and four passengers could make this affordable for the Irish Players.

The hotel rates look a bit steep are they the special rates pertaining to the Event.

Hi Damian,

Would be great if the Irish players could make it over.

The room rates are at a special discount for tournament players, working out as £14 a night cheaper than their standard rate. Prices include breakfast. It's quite a nice hotel.

RE Mase, a while back...

Yeah, it's 3000 ltd. Having looked at the rankings, those with over 2100 points are fairly likely to be able to attract a mixed partner, thus why I am running the event simultaneously with mixed.

Joe.

Return Flights

Dublin - Birmingham less than €50 with Aer Lingus and Ryanair at the moment.

Less expensive than car with 4 passengers on the ferry.

I think putting entry fees up will actually make for a lower turnout in this present climate, a couple of years ago their were a lot more people turning up but now people have less money to spend on a hobby. Increasing entry fees will only attract a few top players who think they have a chance of winning but may put players off that have no chance of winning. I personally play because i like taking part, winning money would be a bonus but if there was no prize fund i would still turn up. People will turn up if they like playing but won't if they can't afford to.

Chris, were this a Garlando tournament I would agree with you, where we have 33 players ranked pro and above, compared to 19 on tornado. Those of the 19 that turn up are of a very high standard, and will be looking to win prize money over os/os/hd/xd/2brb, so will want more prize money and deeper pay-outs.

It's only the entry fees of the PM/Pro players that are higher, and that'll up the prize fund. Semi-Pros + amateurs (who make up the majority of the players of a tornado tournament) pay only £35 for a weekend of events and table fees, which is pretty good value. Novices only pay £20, which is as cheap as you're going to see.

Looking good. Good to see I will finally be able to come to another tourny this year. Pitty about the mixed/ 300ltd clash, but I suspect me an sarah are the only people who will be affected.
