Altrincham post-tournament.

Post by Bundy Volume 1 » Mon Mar 22, 2010 3:04 pm

I'd like to start off by saying a huge thank-you to all those who turned up to support this event.

Big thanks to all of those who helped make this tournament possible. So cheers to Joe, Richard Bindloss and Jon May for helping with the set-up. Thanks to Mase, the Darragh's and Dave Lawlor for helping to pack everything away. In particular to Dave who stuck around until the bitter end, at midnight.

I do want to give special mention to Boris too, who not only helped with the set up and down, but also was there to help me out in my first time as organiser with any little thing that I forgot.

Cheers to all the guys who helped out at the desk at various points too, and anyone else I've forgotten.

From a TD/TO stance I was pretty happy with how things ran. The only disappointment was the lack of turn out. I know it wasn't in an ideal venue location wise, but it is very close to Manchester which is one of the biggest tornado player bases in the UK.

This was the 1st tornado tournament in about 8 months, and you just have to worry about the state of everything if you can't get a decent turnout after that kind of a break.

I'd also like to give a shout out to the Irish. It was great that a few of them made the journey over. I didn't get much time to chat to Norm, but Louise and Dave really were brilliant. People like them really do make up a big part of the reason why I run these tournaments.

Really was good to see those that turned up again too. Obviously I got a little stressed at points, as you do, but I really did enjoy the weekend.

General Highs:

- Playing with Boris and Dave. You guys really were brilliant, and felt we had really good results and performances.
- Actually having a 5 bar. Shocking I know, but if you really don't believe me then ask Simmo.
- Beating Joe (albeit in the DYP) for the 1st time just before he leaves us.
- Nothing disastrously going wrong with the tournament. Everything started/ran on time.
- Having a different to usual, but very nice, Saturday night with Oli, Hannah and Dave.

Lows:

- Low turn out
- Joe leaving us

Full results to follow shortly.

Cheers again guys, sure I'll do another one at some point in the not too distant future.

I'd say Manchester United vs Liverpool had a major bearing on this, Joe, I'm sorry to say.

Awesome tournie Joe - nice one :) All ran on time and was really good fun. I've missed Tornado tournaments too much! Please run another one soon!

Highs:
- Decent results in OS and OD, with some good matches along the way. Consistent snaking for the first time in about 2 years was a godsend... even if I still couldn't score against Ola ;)
- Mike A wins OS - wtf?!?! Well done mate!
- Winning 2ball with only 2 teams entered!
- Great to see the Irish players here again - seems like forever since we've seen you all!
- Events being ready to run before the advertised times - unheard of.
- Joe Bundy - best 5 bar of the tournament.

Lows:
- Unbelievably bad results in everything else. Hilariously poor DYP with Jon haha - sorry mate, I didn't feel like I could hit the ball at all that night! The pull kick was awesome tho ;)
- Not enough people playing late night drunken foos - was a shame, but intense 2ball with Han, Joe and Dave was great!
- That's it - great tournie!

Good tournament, many thanks Joe and the other organizers/helpers. Also thanks to Ming, Scott and Teeb for partnering me after I was stood up by the person I was supposed to be playing with.

Highs

- pretty pleased with how I played given I haven't touched a Tornado since October, even though results-wise I didn't do very well
- playing well against Mike A and Rob D in OD and Simon in OS, didn't win either match but they were competitive
- finally overcoming my 12- or 13-game losing streak against Chris Lyall
- seeing Joe before he goes to America
- seeing someone different winning OS - well done Mike
- Britfoos curry on Saturday night, never disappoints

Lows

- food and drink at the venue being overpriced (£2.70 for a pint of coke...)
- failing to get through the SPD groups by losing on sweatball having led throughout the match :(

Great tournament Joe - everything ran on time, or early! awesome :)
Really nice to play Tornado again - Enjoyed it a lot.

My results were massively up and down, what can I say, it keeps people guessing. Including myself :S
Missed the curry on Saturday, but balanced out nicely by some late night roller ball goodness. Lol.

Great to see everyone again, including the Irish contingent, always brighten up a tournament - and the Malaysian contingent as well!

Good event, good location. (I am still stumped as to why two years in a row with good promotion the event has not had great turnout)

I had two great results. Winning NPD with Simon and coming 3rd in PS. Finally starting to actually play well.

Cheers to Joe for putting it on.

Thanks to my partners.

Mase

Good and bad points of the tourni :) :(

Good points,
I got some good results.
Great to see old footy mates and new ones.
Really enjoyed watching Rob & Norm play the semi's and final.

Bad points,
No prize money left after me and Stu came 1st
The lack of trophies especially for novices, when you win your first trophy its loads better than just having prize money, something to look back on.
Poor turn out.
Some tables wobbly.
Thought i played poor.
