BFA League Grand Finals - Sunday 15th September

Post by Boris » Fri Jul 26, 2013 5:18 pm

The Grand Finals of the BFA League Championships 2012-13 will be held at

Rileys Snooker Club
Bolton Street
Liverpool
L3 5LX

On Sunday 15th September 2013

Congratulations to all teams who have qualified via the regional stages:
Elbow Rooms Shoreditch (London East)
Bar Kick Shoreditch (London East)
London Central Cobras (London West)
Victoria's Secret (London West)
Southampton Rockets (South East)
Oxford University TFS (South East)
Walcot Gnarlandos Bath (South West)
Bristol TFC (South West)
Cambridge Uni TFC (East Anglia)
Cambridge PTFS City (East Anglia)
Nuneaton Royal Oaks (Midlands)
Warwick University (Midlands)
Lokomotiv Liverpool (North West)
Manchester Rainbow Warriors (North West)
Darlington TFC (North East)
Edinburgh TFC (Scotland)
Orcs Aberdeen (Scotland)

All teams captains and vice-captains will be e-mailed with details and must confirm participation, table selection and player squads by midnight on 31st August. The draw will then be made for the group-stage fixtures. The format will involve a group stage followed by a knock-out. Teams will not meet others from their own league until the knock-out stage.

Tables
Teams may bring their own table - if so it must be assembled by 10am Sunday and the team are responsible for setting up and dismantling the table, and for all damage to the table which may occur during the tournament or in transit.
The following tables are available for hire on a first confirmed first served basis.
10x Garlando Master Champions (2x pre-2007 type World Champions also available)
6x Fireball
3x Bonzini B90 (1x B60 also available)
1x Tornado
(Note - further Tornado tables may be available from third parties (e.g. Eddie Edwards). Teams wishing to play on block-foot/telescopic Garlando tables may bring their own rods, handles & bearing assemblies and fit these to a Master Champion cabinet)

Teams retain their 'home table' throughout the competition and are responsible for dismantling the table once their team has been eliminated (unless the table is needed for the knock-out stage).

Provisional Timetable
If all 17x qualified teams compete, there will be 2x groups of 6 and 1x group of 5x teams. If any group contains 5 or 6 teams the schedule will be:
10am - Deadline for team selections
10.30am – Groups round 1
11.45am – Groups round 2
1.00pm – Groups round 3
2.15pm – Groups round 4
3.30pm – Groups round 5
4.30pm – Quarter-Finals
6pm – Semi-Finals
7.30pm – Final & 3rd/4th place playoff

The draw will be made and fixtures confirmed once teams have confirmed participation.

Match Formats
As in the league stage, each team has 2x singles players and 3x doubles teams, and can use between 4 and 8 players per match. No singles player can play in 3rd doubles, and no player can play more than 1x singles and 1x doubles, or 2x doubles ties. Each player or team plays their counterparts (e.g. S1-v-S1, D2-v-D2) once on each table, i.e. 10 games in total. In the group stage all games must be played.
In the knockout stage, the match finishes when one team has won 6x games, if the match finishes in a 5-5 draw a FSO tie-breaker/penalty shootout is held to decide the winners. 4x players from each team each take one shot against the other on each table. The tie is won when one team cannot be caught by the other. If the scores are still level after each player has taken their 2 shots, the tie becomes sudden death with each player taking one shot on each table, with scores counted after each pair of players have completed both their shots.

Teams must submit their line-ups for all the group matches to the desk before the start of the competition. For the Knock-Out stages teams have 5x minutes from when the match is announced to submit their teams, otherwise their most recent line-up will be imposed by default.

Handicaps: Player handicaps for the Grand Finals will be based on players rankings as of 1st September 2013. If ALL qualified teams agree in advance (i.e. none object) the competition may be un-handicapped to avoid potential issues with automatic European Champions League qualification for the winners.

Squads: Any player registered as a club member can take part, provided he or she has not competed for another club over the past season, there is no limit to the size of squads. All squads must be submitted at the time of registration.

Note - there will be a one-day multitable (Fireball, Garlando & Bonzini) tournament in the venue held the previous day (Saturday 14th September) for those teams seeking to make a weekend of it.

Hi Boris,

I can't remember where the forms are so would like to throw down the gauntlet in public and say that Greta Skrupskelyte, Jody Walding, Edward Taylor, Markus Bernhardt and James Littlefair (captain) will be entering as Cambridge City. Our table is Fireball.

All Qualified team captains were reminded yesterday of this Saturdays confirmation deadline with further copies of the registration form. The confirmation deadline is midnight this Saturday.

If you are unable to use the form, email clubs@britfoos.com with the full names of players in your squad (you can name between 4 and 20x players) and your preferred home table type.

As two teams have voted against suspension of handicapping the finals will be handicapped based on players' current ranking status (handicaps listed after each registered player above).

The teams participating in the league finals have now been confirmed. Two teams from the North West and East Anglia are placed in separate groups, the remaining teams hail from London, Nuneaton, Southampton and Darlington. Alex Millington-Marston (Lewisham Tornados - No conflict of Interest) has made the draw thus:
Alex MM wrote:We group top seeds of qualifiers with second seeds. So Cam City with Manchester in one group then Cam uni with liverpool in the other. I flipped to see which other top seed would be in first group between Nuneaton and Southampton and got Nuneaton. Then same with Darlington and Bar Kick. Got the following results.

Group A

Cambridge City (CMC) - Fireball
Manchester (MAN) - Fireball
Nuneaton (NUN) - Garlando

We had a really enjoyable outing to this event.

It was great to meet both old and new faces. I thought the format was really good
- enabling me to play on Bonzini for the first time which was a bonus.

Kind Regards,
Bill and All at The Royal Oak, Nuneaton

Congratulations to Bar Kick, and in particular the cool, calm head demonstrated by Sam in the penalty shoot-out to take the win, following up my fluff into the corner on Bonzini (ironically probably the best Bonzini shot I'd hit from the 3 all day, and it was nearly 2 feet wide) with a couple of lovely front pin shots, a crisp long push on the Bonzini followed by another on the Garlando that cut back just enough for me to not be in the way. The format was great - perhaps it would help participation next season if we hold some league fixtures on the Friday evening before weekend events?

More tournaments should have team events. It helped make Warwick, earlier this year, the most fun tournament I have been to and I can't remember anything in foos meaning more to me than the feeling I had in the build up to the 'penalties' in the final vs Bar Kick. Gutted to lose, but it was brilliant that something felt so important.

I am unsure how many UK tournaments I'm going to want to go to next year, but a proper team event would be a massive draw for me to attend the tournament running it.
