Re: Seeding and Rankings Debate

Having achieved above my rank, I was the lowest seed to qualify and had to play Tom. Now I feel given my position I should have played one of the top 6 players from groups - but not necessarily Tom. I felt I had earned my right through playing and my ability to have half a chance to get to the last...

Re: Seeding and Rankings Debate

Tom raises double elimination as favourable to top players. I support this method as favourable for everyone. I'm afraid DE is not the best format for new players to the game as it confusing to the layman and reduced the chances of worse players doing well. Tom worries he'll meet Jon in a quarter f...

Re: Seeding and Rankings Debate

Goal difference in groups shouldn't matter if the top seed wins all their games so actually there is NO incentive to crush n00b players - as long as they win the game score is unimportant. I agree with this, but goal difference has been used in the past to seed knockouts. pro's are already catered ...

Re: Seeding and Rankings Debate

At most tournaments there are n00b events such as novice and semi-pro singles/doubles which are taylored to meet the needs and wants of the players ranked in those categories and the Open events are taylored to meet the needs and wants of the top players. In this tournament there was only the one ev...

Re: Seeding and Rankings Debate

James, Your suggestion is a better one than I thought you were suggesting but still has some problems (as do all methods to some degree). Using your proposal the seedings will still be dependent on results of very short format matches (1-7 in the case of Hereford). It would be far too easy for some ...

Re: Seeding and Rankings Debate

James, You are right to query the method of seeding after groups, this has been discussed many many times since I started playing 5 or 6 years ago and I'm sure before then too. Here are my thoughts. There are two main reasons why seeding from group results should not be used: 1) Pro players end up h...

Re: Barrels Open results + afterglow

Really fun tournament, thanks to Brice, Brice, Potts et al for organising it. I found out that I do have the ability to shoot a pull shot in tournament play, but only for about 2-3 hours before my week arm starts hurting. I did enjoy having to shoot lots of random shots to try to win. I'm afraid tha...

Boris,

Once again I think you need to look at the way international tournaments are included in the BFA rankings.

Re: Garlando Worlds 2011 - 28th- 31st July in Oberwart

So is =17th the best singles performance by any non-Rob brit at a WCS event? Or is this just Garlando Worlds? Yes - in all WCSs I was wrong originally, only myself (05), Nubbert (11) and (apologies to) Jon May (10) have made 17th= in OS at Garlando WCS (Andrei made 25th in 05 when it was DE), Morga...

Re: BFA July 2011 Rankings Discussion

Wow, I didn't expect this sort of heated debate to arise from my original post. I only wanted to point out a minor issue with the ranking system whilst, at the same time, bring Joe's attention to the fact that he is still 3rd in the rankings. Joe, when are you coming over to a UK tournament? It woul...

Re: BFA Rankings July 2011

I'm not proposing anything as draconian as Chris is suggesting. However, Jon, I do not think it unreasonable to suggest that the way we rank players in the UK to be reviewed if the current system has flaws.

BFA July 2011 Rankings Discussion

MOD - Discussion of ranking issues split from July 2011 rankings listing Hi Boris, Can we re-evaluate how many ranking points people get for attending overseas tournaments please. At the moment Joe is getting far too many points for turning up to tournaments that none of us can reasonably be expect...

Re: ISHA results and afterglow

A review of my matches, read at your own peril. This was the first Friday evening I've attended for a long time. It was a good chance to warm up my game (or at least remember how to move the rods) meaning I didn't have to go in cold on the Saturday. I think the Friday practice made a huge difference...
