Might come along

I'm up in Rotherham now so might come along- depends mainly on whether ppl reckon the roads to central Manchester are likely to be clear at that time of night- I'd aim to arrive a bit early as I'm rusty to say the least

Tournament at end of first term

Don't suggest organising an Oxford WS tournament for the end of the first term- it'll be better than my effort at organising a Cambridge Open!

Must have been good

Much as I spent a lot of the day annoyed with the first to 5 format and my standard of play, the simple fact is that despite spending £60 on the day out with all expenses considered, and despite the fact that I played less games than hours I was in attendance, I would go again. I think that's got to...

Radio

No, but I do sports coverage for uni radio and so (now our good interviews like Chris Eubank have dried up) may be wandering round Warwick with a minidisc and microphone next week asking people why they travel 300 miles to play foos

Table

Yeah, the table's awful- hopefully I won't lose singles 8-0 when we play on a proper table this Wednesday- though I think I'd have to win both singles rubbers if we were to win the match, and that might be a bit of an ask

Come to Cambridge

Though there aren't any Tornado's in Cambridge, you're perfectly welcome to brave the FABI in the Downing college student bar. We're looking at trying to get a WC Garlando in Cambridge, which although not Tornado, is along similar lines. Hopefully when we do we'll have weekly gatherings which we'd b...

Warwick

I was going to find out how Warwick have got so many tables together- I figured if they could we could The comment about locals only having played blocky is why I said table type would depend on us getting a pinny table; I tried to leave stuff open cos the truth is the plans are still a twinkle in m...

Up in the air

I don't know yet- obviously it'll be interesting to see how successful Warwick is- beyond that I'm not sure Ideally it will be run in such a way that 2 defeats puts you out the main Open but in such a way that weak players still get a decent number of games. I may try something out in the internal u...

Anyone?

Thanks for that

Anyone want a partner for amateur and open doubles? I don't mind if I play at back or up front- I'm not even sure where I'm better right now

Any partner yet?

I'm looking for a partner for Warwick- back or front (normally back but on pinny foot Garlando I can play front). I'd happily play with Paul Taylor in amateur and open doubles if he still hasn't got a partner

Trains

The trains are really bad; the last train would require leaving at about 8 to make Cambridge for 1:15

If somebody could pick up/ drop off at Rugby, that would be more feasible

I'm sure it's up somewhere, but when does the tournament finish?

Transport

Just looked at the train times- it involves going through Birmingham, so isn't really practical. Is anyone travelling to Warwick from somewhere such that I could meet them at a convenient point on their route? Obviously I'd pay petrol money

The tournament looks good though and am keen to attend

Another way of looking at things

Ok, I've come up with a tournament suggestion on these forums that tries to achieve 3 things: SE Quarter finals on for ease of understanding DE for the rest of the Open for ease of understanding Swiss for people out the Open so everyone gets games/ realistically ranked I made the mistake of allowing...

Seeded

I'm proposing you seed the draw like at Wimbledon so each quarter of the draw would have 4 of the top 16 in. Even though you could in theory play only novices, you'd be playing novices who'd knocked out pros- and that could happen with any tournament format I'm aware if you use Swiss software you ca...

In full support

Rob is completely right that DE is no more exciting than his sytem The system I've proposed on another thread suggests that if you win 4/4 you make the quarter finals, or if you win 5/6. If you lose twice you're out. Everyone knows the importance of the games they are playing. Quarter finals on are ...

Re: Fair

I still see what you're saying, but with Swiss with 64 players there's still no guarantee whatsoever that you're playing anyone good enough (on the day) to get only one loss after round 5 by the time you get to round 4. You could still beat only teams who during normal proceedings would have three ...

Clarification- the final one?

Dave, that's exactly what I mean- the first 4 rounds are Swiss but you miss the cut if you lose a game so have to play another 2 games The reason I call it SE is that games between people who have won every match can be longer format- so anyone who won their first 4 games would not be aware they had...
