Post TORNADO UK CHAMPIONSHIPS - OVERALL SUMMARY
Fri Sep 19, 2008 2:45 pm
We (f4f) (supported by BFA) are intending to hold a major Tornado event in November high level details of the schedule etc can be found below.

We have tried some different and novel formats as an experiment so it will be interesting to see whateverybody thinks afterwards , tried to keep fees and total costs low and hopefully found a cost effective venue whcih if all goes well ,we and the BFA or even other organisers can use for other events .

The event is also to determine the best player on Tornado.
This is in line with the ITSF structure which is to have a world series event on each table type and then a multi table world championships.
In the UK as we are the Tornado distributor we intend to hold this event each year as the UK Tornado Championships, hopefully getting some sponsorship etc.
It is open to others if they like to do a UK Garlando Championship or Bonzini,RS etc.
All of which would not detract from the main BFA Multi table UK Championships which would be for qualification for the ITSF events  just like the various world series events do.

Anyway hope you come and enjoy it.

Looks great Dave, you're going to get the same old complaints where people want more events and all that but looks like it should be fun.

Venue looks different but it could become Foosballs version of the Lakeside.

As a slight suggestion there might be room for a NPD event at some point. Short format is never a problem for that as its seen as a bonus event.

Most SP and Rookies will be out of the main events by 2-3 on Sunday.

I have been to the proposed venue today and can confirm this event is
a) definitely on
b) will be great fun

This event is intended to appeal to a wide range of foosers with virtually everyone able to enter 5 events over the two (three nights)  days.
We have included some interesting and novel formats and events structured in such a way as to minimise or eliminate any conflicts.
Further details on the exact formats entry fees , pre reg etc will now be posted later today or tommorrow and are very good value.

TABLE FEES WILL BE £7.50 PER DAY , £15 THE ENTIRE WEEKEND INC FRIDAY NIGHT DYP. THERE WILL BE NO NEED TO BUY BALLS AS TWO NEW BALLS PER TABLE WILL BE INCLUDED. NOOBS WILL PAY £5 PER DAY.

ALL EVENTS WILL BE AT LEAST 100% PAYOUT

The event will be held here http://www.warrensholidayvillage.com/index.htm

This has very cheap on site accomodation with a max cost of £20per person per night in good quality lodge accomodation. Any one wishing to stay for 3 nights i.e. Fri, sat, Sun can stay in the self catering lodges for 4 and pay even less i.e. £17.50 per person per night.

It is 2 mins from the M5 motorway and  10 - 15 mins max  from Bristol airport . IRISH GUYS RYANAIR form Dublin is currently dirt cheap!

Pre reg will start during next week. Please pre reg as if we get too many entries we may have  to restrict numbers in some events  and this will guarantee your entry as well as make the event easier to run.

There is too much detail to put in one thread. This thread is for an outline of the entire event. You can then look at the specific event threads for the events you are eligible to enter for the details of that event and any questions related to that event.

Overall fees summary etc will also be posted here though.

Post Summary
Sat Oct 04, 2008 11:00 pm
The running list and times of events are posted in this thread above.
Below is a summary of who can enter what and fees.  Please tell me if I have got any of these wrong!

Details of each event, format and fees etc is on its own post and questions about a specific event should be asked and answered there.

SUMMARY
With  DYP FRIDAY for all making a possible 5 events for  most players .

Beginners - 5 events , DYP beg d, beg dyp, od and os
Am/nov - 5 events , DYP, handicapped doubles, od, 3000 ltd , os
Semi pro - 5 events , DYP , handicapped, od , os, 3000ltd
Pro - 5 events , DYP, od, handicapped doubles, os and 3000 ltd (or in UKTS or UKTD if in top 16)
Women - 5 events DYP, od,os womens UKtd, womens UKts
Pro masters - 5 events , DYP , UKS,UKD,od,os

Total cost noob for 5 events £7.50! Plus £10 table fees
                Am/nov 5 events £12.50 plus £15 table fees
Women 5 events £22.50 plus £15 table fees depending on rank may be less
Semi      5 events £17.50 plus £15 table fees
Pro        5 events £30.00 plus £15 table fees
PRO Master  5 events £65.00 plus £15 table fees
Master  4 events i.e. not entering UKTS UKTD = £37.50 plus £15 table fees

Something for everyone !
Formats are designed to minimise conflicts .
Once size of all entries is known then tables not needed  in any particular event will be reallocated if necessary to other events.

From past events it is very unlikely indeed more than 12 women max 6 teams will enter .

Some events are limited in numbers so pre-registering gives you priority and secures a place.

PROS and ABOVE must look reasonably professional and wear a smart looking  Polo shirt or foos related T shirt with no  suggestive comments on , no jeans with lots of holes in etc . This will be rigorously enforced and Pro and above players not looking reasonably smart/professional will not be allowed to enter as we want them to set an example as top players.

Obviously the usual caveats about the organisers reserving the rights to change formats , event start times , eligibilty etc in order to ensure the smooth running of the events on the day also apply.

Hey Dave
Looks like it will be a great event, I'll see if it's possible for me to go...

You said at the top of the topic:
Quote:
Beginners - 5 possible  events , DYP (FRI) , beg d, beg dyp, od and os
All these events will be free entry for beginners

But in the post above this, you said Noobs (I assume you meant Beginners there :P ) would have to pay £7.50 and £10 table fees.

Which is it? :)

Cheers
Mac

Hi Mac,

thanks for the spot. I have changed it to reflect that beginners will need to pay to enter open events etc .
This is because initially I thought it would be good to allow them free entry but on reflection there was a danger that lots of absolute noobs (beginners)may decide to enter just as its free and just clutter up the open brackets taking more time for the events to run. At least if we charge a nominal fee only the keen noobs will pay the cash to enter which is the noobs we want to encourage rather than "as I am here and its free I;ll have a go " whcih could just increase open matches unecesarilly.

Table fees cover the cost of holding the event in return for free play all the time. Beginners will pay less but as they will benefit from playing on tables for free all weekend not fair to not contribute some money to the costs.

Goodness knows which is the right option but that is what i decided in the end. So the two beginner events are free but its £2.50 for the rest.

My maths is probably wrong or something, but Dave - are those package prices you've quoted? Or are they just meant to represent the sum total of entry fees?

I thought:

£15 x 4 for the UKS/UKD/OS/OD + £5 DYP + £15 table fees for Pro-Master. OK so it's only out by £2.50 and I probably missed some discount somewhere or something. I'm just trying to work out exactly how much this event would cost me...

Hi Jon,

no looks like my maths is crap as usual 4 x £15 if Pro master plus £5 DYP
so £65 . Knew I would make a mistake somewhere!!
However look on bright side you come into the open after the early rounds  :D

... with no warmup! :-)

It's not really a privilege for me, as I usually require quite a bit of warmup on Tornado. But I can fully understand the reasons for doing it.

If you are entering the UKTORNADO Doubles as i would expect I would say that is quite a warm up!!!  You then go very quickly into OS and vice versa on Sunday so you should be pretty warm!!

Hey again Dave, thanks for confirmation re: Noob prices.
I can probably get the time off work but travelling and accommodation are looking to be tricky.
Is the venue close to the train/bus station or on an easy bus route at least?
And is there much chance of there being cheaper accommodation nearby (within 20 mins walk, say)? Or am I pushing my luck looking for a room for under £20/night? :)
Already stretching my pay-cheque paying rent and bills each week... :P

I suspect you would find it very hard to get anywhere less than £20 a night these days to be honest.

Have you talked to jinxi (Simon) as he may be able to give you a lift , also that would be a great beginners team i suspect also could share a room (still £20 each though).

Thats if hes going and does not have a partner etc , why not PM him if not let me know and i'll look up buses etc
