The Bush was rockin on New Years Day with them shovies plus their stubborn defending mate.

Normal service has now resumed for Thursdays.

The Shovies will be here for a couple of weeks more, so for those who can make it, come on down and join us. There should be at least six this week, maybe more.

I quite like to come for a few games; its been a while since I showed off my (lack of) skill on Tornado. Anyone from Oxford with a car fancy some Tornado? The Bush is always a good laugh.

Sounds good to me. I can drive up to Bristol next thursday (15th). But only if I can get three other Oxford players in the car contributing petrol money. Who wants to go?

OK, so that's Dave (I assume, yes?), Naeem, and I need one more, who wants the last place in the cadillac?

After last week's 7 team tournament, including our USA friend, Paul Ward, another great night with an international flavour was had.

We were joined by Chris from Weston Super Mare (Garlando player) and his partner, Petra from...................Czechoslovakia!!

Shes over here for a while and tells us that the foosball scene is bouyant in her country - table type more Garlando -ish I think (she couldn't remember the name of it).

Great to see another girl foosing - and a good player as well.

Important to note also that they found us trawling the internet, putting "table fotball" into a search engine.

The Bush greeted another first timer tonight - and a bit of a surprise too, as none of us knew he was coming.

Raf made his debut tonight, along with our adopted Bushman, Ben Leahy.

Solid play (as usual) from Raf, excellent scoring from the back, and a nice 3 bar to boot, adding some tricks from time to time. He claims not to have played on Tornado much, help us all if he starts!!

Ben, as usual, top form blocking and some unstoppable shots, making his Tornado game better and better. Thanks Ben, for making the trip again.

Great night all round as usual, superb games.

Also foosing - Mike Fowler, Dave Oates, Chris Bulley, Pete Ochmann......oh yeah, and me.

Phil

You are right of course.

I am presuming you will supply suitable viewing entertainment as we do when you visit (last night was outstanding) - something along the lines of your new avatar will do nicely!!

Hey, any of you guys coming to Ireland?

Well, don't know where to start really.

What a superb night !!

We were highly entertained by Frank Espinosa, USA pro player who is on vacation here, staying with his partner in crime, honourary overseas bushman and fellow attendee Paul Ward.

Frank showed people who haven't seen it what a fast pull shot should be. I saw pulls like this in Dallas at the worlds, and twas a pleasure to have it demonstrated so well at the Bush.

Frank, like Paul, is a very nice guy, and had no hesitation, at the request from Mike, to give a "clinic" type session relating to his awesome 5 bar. Some really good stuff was learned from him.

4 solid hours foosing - I have to say I enjoyed tonight immensely, more than the recent............oh no, I wont go there. Fantastic play it was, the table was clean and lubed, Mike brought his furry balls (gasp) and even Ben Leahey made the trip from Reading. Just a note on Ben, his shooting was by far the best I have seen him ever play, in such high company as well, and some good blocking and passing also. Wtg !!

Other highlights included at 11.12pm, Paul Ward finally blocked one of my shots. Sorry Paul - you'll be missed when you go to Prague next week. Keep in touch, youre a great shooter and blocker, (when I let you of course 8) ).

Ok, thats all for now - to the guys at the Grange Friday, you will have fun, we've warmed these yanks up for you, so be prepared.

In attendance: Frank Espinosa, Paul Ward, Mike Fowler, Dave Oates, Pete Ochmann, Chris Bullley, Benedict Leahey and me.

Some of the skill on show last night was awesome, playing tornado has definitely improved my whole game.

When playing against lesser opponents , I can lose interest, but the players down the bush are of such a high standard. If you want to know just how good a player you are and test your skills, you can’t get much better than facing a Frank Espinosa pull shot. Or Martyn Harris pull kick for that matter.

Coming Home...

Postby Jonathan May » Wed Mar 03, 2004 12:56 am

Dear Bushmen,

I have recently learned the game at Cambridge (my uni) on Garlandos. I attended Reading, to get thoroughly battered by some pretty good players. Still, I had a decent run in the singles that was ended by someone good (who's name I can't remember). I saw Martyn and (is it Dave?) his partner play and was impressed at the consistency of his drag-bang shot, with the wicked little dinks thrown in from time to time.

I hail from Bristol, and will be returning there over the Easter break. What are the odds on coming for the odd game to watch you guys play and maybe learn a bit on Tornado... ? Could you let me know when you play, and where the Bush pub is?

Cheers guys, see you in about two weeks.

Jon
