german venues

Postby Oatsey » Wed May 16, 2012 7:57 am

I thought this list of venues is interesting , not only for its sheer scale but the number of table types and quality of players at the 4 star and 5 star venues.

Obviously P4P and the Germans are doing something right as its grown dramatically in the last decade I would say as I cannot remember it being that extensive/popular previously but perhaps it was.

When I first developed the BFA venues db I ranked venues between 0 (dead) and 5 stars (Rainbow, Bush, Grange etc), with loose criteria.
0 - No table (dead venues - but they would sometimes resuscitate)
1 - Unverified reports of a table
2 - Type of table identified, venue confirmed
3 - Some evidence of regular players
4 - Good regular scene
5 - Regular scene attracting pro-standard players, competitions etc

I eventually got the list up to over 1000 venues, but found there was a lot of churn with the information quickly going out of date.

The Germans have tens of thousands of league players who play regularly every week. They have more than 150 national tournaments each year. Last year there was one day when there were 9 national tournaments.
